FTC Sues Intel (Plus Full Text of Complaint)

It’s going to be a long, cold winter for Intel legal. The Federal Trade Commission filed suit against Intel this morning, accusing the company of waging “a systematic campaign to shut out rivals’ competing microchips by cutting off their access to the marketplace.” In its complaint, the FTC claims Intel used threats, bundled prices or other offers to encourage exclusive deals, hamper competition or unfairly manipulate the chip market.

FTC to Google CEO, Apple: Nice Try

Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s resignation from Apple’s board this morning was a nice gesture, but it’s not going to end the Federal Trade Commission’s investigation of the ties between the Google and Apple boards. In a statement issued this afternoon, the FTC applauded the move, but said the two companies are foolish if they think it will simply abandon its inquiry as a result.
