Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz: The Full D7 Session (Unexpurgated!)

Yes, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz did indeed drop the F-bomb on BoomTown quite expertly in an onstage interview at the seventh D: All Things Digital conference recently–and, yes, it was both expected and enjoyable. (In this picture, she is clearly trying to hypnotize me with her stare.) But that’s not all the voluble leader of the long-troubled Internet company said in what was a sassy, funny and very lively session at D7, where she talked about a lot of topics, from Microsoft to Google to the state of the advertising market in the weak economy.

D7 Video: By Popular Demand, Carol Bartz Sound Bites

Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz’s Green Room Note to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer

When asked about the state of Microsoft’s relationship with Yahoo during his D7 interview this morning, CEO Steve Ballmer had little new to report. But he did say that Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz left him a note in the D7 Green Room this morning. We’ve managed to find it. It’s a purple Post-It, and it was left in the D7 Program in the makeup room–a program all D7 guests sign. Bartz and Ballmer share a page in it, and the Yahoo CEO stuck her note below Ballmer’s picture knowing he’d later sign the program when getting his makeup done. The note reads: “Steve, Forget it. Won’t help. Ha. Carol.”

D7 Video: Carol Bartz, Live and (Really) Uncensored

Update: R-rated version live now! Earlier in the day, Robert Thomson joked about an 18-second expletive delay for Carol Bartz. “Do you want me to say something naughty now?” she quips as she takes the stage. She does end up dropping the much anticipated f-bomb, but much later in the interview–right before patting Kara on the knee with the disclaimer: “Don’t worry, it didn’t mean anything.”

Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz: We’re a Different Company Than Google

Yahoo, “frankly, could use a little management.” Uttering those words during a conference call to discuss her appointment as CEO, Carol Bartz ushered in a new era at the Internet’s perennial underachiever. If Jerry Yang was a lower-caps CEO–-literally, since he pens staff memos using all lowercase letters-–Bartz appears to be his ALL CAPS successor, a sacred cow-slaughtering, no-BS strategist. Can she help Yahoo regain its previous stature, or at least turn the company around?
