New Yahoo Chief of Staff Comes In, While Previous One Goes to Facebook

New Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson has selected Marta Nichols, who was the Silicon Valley Internet giant’s VP of investor relations, as his new chief of staff. Interestingly, Joel Jones, the chief of staff under Thompson’s predecessor, has moved to Facebook. After CEO Carol Bartz was ousted in the fall, Jones moved to a job as VP of Americas Ad Marketplaces at Yahoo. He’ll be part of the business operations team focused on the ads business at the social networking giant.

While trolling around Washington, D.C., this week, BoomTown dropped in on Blair Levin, the executive director of the National Broadband Plan, the opus just released by the Federal Communications Commission. Aimed primarily at boosting the proliferation of high-speed access across the United States, the plan has been shepherded by the telecommunications analyst and former FCC staffer.

One Last Yahoo Reorg Missive: Bartz Tells Employees What She Already Said. Again.

Goodness gracious, make it stop! You must know by now how much BoomTown loves internal Yahoo memos. But this is getting ridiculous. It’s been like a flash flood after a long drought at Sunnyvale HQ today, as Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz turns on the firehose of a whole lot of communicating. “I know you guys have reorg fatigue,” wrote Bartz in the latest email to employees about the management reorganization finally announced this morning. Also memo fatigue at All Things Digital HQ, if you can believe it.
