Adobe Co-Founder: We Never Abandoned Apple, but Apple Is Abandoning Us

A couple of weeks ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs published “Thoughts on Flash,” a 1,671-word execration of Adobe’s Flash platform. On Thursday, Adobe co-founders and co-chairmen Chuck Geschke and John Warnock followed suit with some thoughts of their own. Their eight-paragraph essay, “Our Thoughts On Open Markets,” mentions Apple only once, but when it does it is to lambaste the company for its position on Flash. I spoke to Geschke Thursday afternoon about his letter, Adobe’s new “We ? Apple” ad campaign and Apple’s stance on his company’s software. After the jump, a transcript of our conversation.

Though it should have ended after Steve Jobs’s withering “Thoughts of Flash” essay, Adobe’s long and unsuccessful campaign to persuade Apple to embrace the multimedia platform on its mobile devices continues. Today the company added still more fuel to the Flash flame war by taking out full-page pro-Flash advertisements in the business sections of a number of major newspapers.

Today, a panoply of prominent tech and Internet leaders is taking a very public stand against a controversial initiative before California voters, which would eliminate the current legal right of same-sex couples to marry. Silicon Valley has had a long history of supporting gay rights. And recently, Google Co-Founder Sergey Brin has made a strong statement opposing Proposition 8, while Apple gave $100,000 to the help defeat it.
