What Bugs You About Technology at the Office?

On Monday, the WSJ published a story arguing that companies should give their employees more freedom to decide what technology to use in the workplace. Predictably, it touched a nerve among people who work in corporate information-technology departments, some of whom said in the comments section that the writer (that would be me) was more or less advocating technology anarchy inside companies.

There’s an old debate in the Valley about whether Google is really a media company or a technology company. In a sense, it is a silly debate, which is mostly a matter of semantics. A better question is this: Now that Google has become one of the world’s largest media companies, at least as measured by advertising dollars, what does it do next?
