Of course, because Silicon Valley is possibly the least sexy of places, any whiff of a scandal involving a powerful CEO and a blonde model/actress/cougar/contractor is going to get the lion’s share of the attention in the coverage. Thus, the resignation Friday of Hewlett-Packard head Mark Hurd and the private settlement with consultant Jodie Fisher have morphed into a juicy summer potboiler. Today, when the markets open, we’ll see if any of it matters to Wall Street or if investors have moved on to trying to determine the next moves for the tech giant and its leadership.

Well–as Betty White puts it in this promo for her debut appearance on the NBC late-night comedy show–”Thanks to the Internet, I’m hosting ‘Saturday Night Live.’” It is indeed so–after a lot of Facebook fan page grassroots agitation, the veteran television star will appear on SNL on May 8. It seems the powerful social networking site can now force media giants to friend and also like-button their chosen.

Last week, a cougar was reported to be roaming on the Redmond, Wash., campus of Microsoft. Here’s an image the very fine global alert from Microsoft Global Security first sent last week, which assured employees of the software giant that “Microsoft Security will conduct frequent patrols of all wooded areas of the campus.” That’s more than you can say about how the software giant handles hackers!

Over the past few days, Microsoft employees have reported several sightings of a cougar, also known as a mountain lion, roaming around the company’s verdant campus in Redmond, Wash.
