Motorola and RIM Hug It Out

In February 2008, Motorola and Research In Motion filed a pair of call-and-response lawsuits, each accusing the other of violating an assortment of patents and/or demanding exorbitant royalties on others essential to their respective businesses. Today, they announced a new cross-licensing agreement that resolves those suits.

Intel, AMD Announce Dual Core Litigation Settlement

Wow. Intel and AMD’s seemingly endless legal battles have finally ended. The two companies said early Thursday that they have reached a comprehensive agreement that resolves their many antitrust and patent disputes. Under its terms, Intel will pay AMD $1.25 billion and agree to “abide by a set of business practice provisions” presumably crafted to temper its alleged anticompetitive practices.

Did Nokia Sue Apple Before Apple Could Sue Nokia?

Analysts mulling over Nokia’s IP infringment suit against Apple seem to be of two minds about how the action will play out. Some see it as a move to cash in on Apple’s iPhone success. Others view it as a preemptory move against a possible infringement suit from Apple aimed at Nokia’s own multitouch handsets.
