UPDATED: EMusic Gets a New CEO, Promises Cloud-Based Locker Service For 2011

Digital veteran Adam Klein takes over for owner Danny Stein. A new site overhaul, scheduled for the end of the year, is supposed to help the subscription service compete against Apple and Amazon on one end, and Rhapsody, Mog and Rdio on the other. Much more interesting: The service says it will have a cloud-based “locker” streaming service up and running by the end of the year, with a full rollout in 2011.

Yet another digital company is cutting back: eMusic, the digital music subscription service, is firing “about 10 percent” of its 100-person staff. The company says sales are okay, but it’s seeing softness at retail partners like Best Buy. And it’s also still looking for a new CEO.
