Google Asks Court to Toss Oracle’s Android Lawsuit

Silicon Valley’s latest Goliath versus Goliath battle is officially on. Google today responded to Oracle’s claims that its Android OS infringes copyrights and patents related to Java, which Oracle acquired as part of its purchase of Sun Microsystems earlier this year. This morning, the search sovereign filed an answer to Oracle’s suit, denying all seven of its patent-infringement charges, and asking that the company’s copyright-infringement claim be dismissed because Google feels it is “legally deficient.”

AT&T, Verizon Drop “There’s a Map for That” Suits

AT&T and Verizon Wireless have dropped their lawsuits against each other over Verizon’s “There’s a Map for That” and “Island of Misfit Toys” commercials. Seems the “irreparable harm” AT&T claimed to have suffered as a result of the ads wasn’t so irreparable after all. Dismissals text after the jump.

Volpi and Index Smack Back at Skype Founders With Motion to Dismiss (Plus Filings!)

The legal high jinks in the contentious battle over the fate of Skype got worse this afternoon, as former Joost CEO Michelangelo Volpi and Index Ventures filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the founders of Skype–Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, via Joost and Joltid–against them. It’s yet another chess move among a group of well-known tech players, who used to work together closely and are now at odds.
