Blockbuster: Is a Turnaround Still Possible?

Blockbuster could be running out of time. GimmeCredit analyst Kin Noland downgraded the firm’s rating on the struggling video store chain to Deteriorating from Stable, pointing to the surprisingly strong Q4 from Netflix, as well as the increasingly precarious state of rival Movie Gallery, parent of the Hollywood Video chain.

The battle for control of the DVD rental market is heating up, and taking a toll on all of the key players–retail store leader Blockbuster, DVD-by-mail player Netflix and $1-a-day kiosk operator Redbox, a unit of Coinstar.
