Mission Motors just landed more than $9 million in Series B funding to not build electric motorcycles. Instead, it is trying to attract other companies that might drool over record-setting mini-electric drive systems.

Tesla IPO Firing on All Cylinders Batteries [UPDATED]

Tesla Motors went public today in the first IPO from an American car company since Ford’s in 1956. And already, its stock appears to have attracted a cult following. Floated with an initial offering price of $17, Tesla shares opened at $19 and closed at $23.89–up $6.89, or 40.5 percent.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally has come to D8 to take the hot seat, a position he should be used to after steering Ford through the recent financial crisis. Ford recently released SYNC, a voice-activation package on some models that integrates the content and functionality of mobile devices with the car itself. SYNC also adds apps to the car, though it’s not clear what these features will mean for the future of American automakers.

The upcoming sequel to the highly successful and wildly techtastic “Iron Man” series is slated for a May 7 release and, from viewing the second trailer just released, it looks like it will do double the damage. That’s because there will be two robotic heroes–Iron Man and War Machine versus Whiplash, who uses, well, electric whips.

Tesla Motors has lost its Sturm und Drang race with Fisker Coachbuild. On Monday, an arbitrator ruled that Fisker did nothing untoward by introducing an electric-powered luxury sports car after doing some design work for Tesla.
