Firefox Soars on Germany's Browser Warning

Germans appear to be heeding the advice of their government and seeking out alternatives to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Web browser. Mozilla, creators of the Firefox browser, say they’ve seen a significant surge in downloads of the software in Germany in the days since a Germany government agency recommended people switch to browsers that compete with Internet Explorer because of a new security flaw in the Microsoft browser.

Google’s new Chrome browser hasn’t been available for a week yet and already, privacy advocates are sounding alarms. Over the weekend, Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security warned against using the browser, which it fears collects and centralizes a bit too much user data with Google.
