When the selling of Myspace winds down in the next week or so, it’ll probably attract a spate of comments about what a failure the whole social networking enterprise turned out to be.
That is, unless you think of the mob of former execs who have worked at the company over time, many of whom have moved on to some more golden opportunities
after leaving Myspace.

Last week, Yahoo’s advertising unit got the once-over from its new sales head Wayne Powers. And, this week, its new Audience unit head Mickie Rosen is making a series of executives moves to shake up its powerful news, sports and entertainment sites.

Yahoo is hiring former News Corp. and Disney online exec Mickie Rosen to run its Audience unit, which includes the Silicon Valley Internet giant’s powerful content sites, sources said.
Rosen will report to Americas head Ross Levinsohn, who has worked with her before, both at News Corp. and Fuse Capital.
The move is Levinsohn’s first management rejiggering since he took over last year, and there is likely to be more to come.

He’s
baaaaaack.
Former Fox Interactive Media President Ross Levinsohn, that is, who is the top candidate to replace Hilary Schneider as Yahoo’s U.S. head, according to several sources close to the situation.
While the deal is not completely struck, sources said Levinsohn is very close to taking the job as the exec primarily in charge of Yahoo’s powerful media properties and giant advertising business.

You already know this, but it’s always good to be reminded: In online video, there’s YouTube, and then there’s everybody else. Today’s data point: ComScore’s August video report, which shows Google’s video site generating 10 billion views and owning 39.6 percent of the market. That’s 10 billion views, and that’s just counting Web surfers from the U.S. Factor in international visitors and…it would be a lot bigger.

As BoomTown previously reported, there have been a lot of exec departures and shifts at Fox Interactive Media and its MySpace unit, which seem to be continuing.
Especially departures, it seems, as the massive restructuring of the digital units of News Corp. keeps shaking out.
Top engineer Max Engel, who ran the social networking site’s open initiatives, for example, is leaving to join the new stealth start-up being helmed by ex-MySpace employees, including former COO Amit Kapur.
And there are a lot of others too.
