This Week in Goal Setting: Foursquare Aspires to Be "Clippy in Your Pocket"

Foursquare is ultimately about offline discovery and exploration, said CEO Dennis Crowley in an interview with me last night at an event in San Francisco. He said his goal is for the app to be a sort of personalized helper with personality, like Microsoft’s terrible Clippy office assistant but smarter.

BoomTown Talks Girl Geek at Facebook Hack Event

This Saturday, BoomTown gassed up the Mini and motored on down to Facebook’s newest building for a Developer Garage and Hackathon, which the social networking giant did in partnership with Girls in Tech. The goal was to focus on women developers, although there were plenty of dudes in attendance, as per usual at any all-night nerd-off. Facebook, feeling empowered, gave me the stage. Oops!

Girls in Tech "Journalism 2.0" Panel: Speak Loudly and Carry a Big Stick

Last night, BoomTown moderated a really interesting panel for an organization called Girls in Tech, titled “Journalism 2.0 RoundTable.” Girls in Tech describes itself as a “social network enterprise focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of like-minded, professional, intelligent & influential women.” With those lofty requirements–combined with the fact that I was a girl when we had yet to land on the moon–I have no idea what I was doing there.
