Google Beat Premieres (Spoiler: Lots of Searches for "Egg Recall" This Week)

Perhaps you reach some Fridays thinking, “Gee, I wonder what the hottest search topics on Google were this week. I suppose I could dig through Google Trends, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some pleasant Google staffer pop on to my screen and breeze through the highlights.” Okay, perhaps not. Nonetheless, the search giant has launched Google Beat as a regular series on YouTube.

Right now, BoomTown is sitting right behind the very affable Jason Hirschhorn, chief product officer of MySpace, who is here to make one of the many partner announcements with Google at its “search event” in Silicon Valley today. Perhaps It's Time for Another One of Those "Your iPhone Contract Is Up" Ads?

Palm’s Pre may compete with Apple’s iPhone on a feature-to-feature basis, but judging from the latest search stats from comScore, the Pre has some way to go before it matches the iPhone in mindshare. According to the research house, Palm Pre search activity, which more than doubled in late May thanks to Sprint’s “Now Network” advertising campaign, suffered a significant decline in mid-June, right around the debut of the new iPhone.
