Google Gives Advertisers Direct Line to DirecTV

Despite a three-year effort, Google still hasn’t been able to list its TV Ads marketplace in the “Raging Successes” column, but a new partnership with DirecTV could give it a boost. Under the deal, Google’s TV Ads platform will offer national satellite inventory (including prime time) across 11 DirecTV channels: Bloomberg Television, Centric, Chiller, Current TV, Fit TV, Fox Business, Fuel, G4, Ovation, Sleuth and TV Guide. Combined with Google’s existing arrangement with the Dish Network, this gives TV Ads customers access to up to 30 million satellite households in the U.S.

Come May, Google TV, the Internet-connected TV platform with which Google hopes to gain a foothold in the living room, will shed the veil of “rumor and speculation” in which it’s been draped. “People familiar with the matter” tell The Wall Street Journal that the company plans to debut the Android-based software at its Google I/O conference in San Francisco on May 19 and 20.
