There’s little doubt that Apple’s share of the smartphone market–particularly in emerging countries–would benefit from a less expensive version of the iPhone–an “iPhone Lite.” But can the company even build one?

OK. So maybe there’s something to these Apple/Verizon rumors after all. Shadowy “people familiar with the matter” tell BusinessWeek the two companies are discussing a distribution deal that would see two new devices added to Verizon’s mobile devices line-up: the first, a sort of “iPhone lite” handset, the second a hi-definition media tablet.
