Would have been even better if Alec Baldwin had been there, too, but we'll take what we can get. Bonus: Many disclosures!

Normally after a big televised live event, like the Oscars or MTV’s Video Music Awards, I can tell you what the Internet thinks was most interesting about said event.

And usually I can provide a YouTube clip that replays the event, which both illustrates said event and the difficulty that TV still has in keeping this stuff off YouTube. Meta!

Alas, my glimpse of the Web this morning tells me very little about last night’s Emmys. Could be because so many people in my peer group are gnashing their teeth into pulp over Netflix/Qwikster. Or it could be because while everyone I like to follow on Twitter likes to tweet about the Emmys, no one was actually watching it.

So in lieu of a consensus answer, here’s the easiest answer: This is the first result from last night’s show that YouTube gives you when you type in “Emmy.”

It doesn’t appear to be official, but it is nice quality, and Jane Lynch is awesome (disclosures below) and the Fox folks (disclosures below) don’t seem to be that upset about it — it’s been up more than half a day.

Also, luckily, it’s pretty amusing. Best part is the “Mad Men” bit, which kicks in around 4:20.

This would have been even better, I’m quite sure, had the Leonard Nimoy part been played by Alec Baldwin, which was the plan until the Fox folks axed a PhoneGate joke and Baldwin bailed. Speaking of which: Disclosures!

Fox is owned by News Corp. Which also owns this Web site. At least as important:

At least one person who works at this Web site is BFFs with Jane. At least one more wishes he/she were BFFs with Jane. Jane Lynch showed up at the start of our D9 conference in May, and she was great then, too.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards for television excellence are broadcast tonight starting at 5 pm PT, so here are some of the better preshow videos to enjoy.

I particularly enjoy the naughty one up top by host and “Glee” star Jane Lynch, in which she makes up all new names for porn versions of popular TV shows:

She is, though, hosting the Emmy Awards, which she nabbed after her stellar D9 gig.

This is a very funny promo for the upcoming Emmy Awards, the annual television fest which is being hosted in September by “Glee” star Jane Lynch.

Lynch, as you recall, declared herself the acting CEO of News Corp. at the ninth D: All Things Digital conference (see that video below, too).

Now, she is apparently impersonating daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to seal her Emmy gig.

But it’s all in good fun, folks:

Fox tells Web surfers how to get their not-really-free anymore Web TV. It's not rocket science, but it's going to take some work. Also: Hulu? What Hulu?

The premise of “TV Everywhere” programs are that they reward pay TV subscribers by giving them access to their programs on the Web (or the iPad, or whatever).

And they do! But they also require subscribers to do some work.

Part of that is because the cable guys really haven’t worked out the technology yet (Facebook could help here).

But it’s really because the point of The Great Free TV Web Pullback of 2011 (alternate title: The Great Web Video Piracy Boom of 2011) isn’t to make it easy to watch TV shows on the Web. It’s meant to protect the traditional TV business.

And it looks like the new “authentication” program that Fox announced last night, which will pull back free TV shows on Hulu and Fox.com, will follow form. (News Corp., which owns Fox, also owns this Web site.)

Take a look at the Web site that Fox rolled out last night in conjunction with the move. It warns surfers that in order to watch shows on the Web, they’ll need to:

Be a Dish Network subscriber.

Create an online Dish Network subscriber ID and password, which will require them to dig up their account number from their paper bill.

Be prepared to log in again every 30 days.

This is about standard for authenticated TV, and while it’s not rocket science, it’s also not much fun. (Quick quiz: Where is your most recent cable bill?)

On the other hand, it is easier than being waterboarded, as “Glee’s” awesome Jane Lynch reminds us in a 15-second video. But it’s certainly nowhere near as easy as the instant gratification you can get by going to Fox.com or Hulu.com and watching last night’s “MasterChef” (or just stealing a peek from a pirate site).

Speaking of Hulu — it’s interesting to note that there’s absolutely no mention of the site on Fox’s Web page, even though Hulu Plus customers can also get access to the Fox programming. But also not surprising.

“Glee” star Jane Lynch opened the ninth D: All Things Digital conference last week in a terrific bit of stand-up, posing as the acting CEO of News Corp. and making all kinds of comical proclamations.

But one thing she thinks should not be made fun of are loaded words that denigrate those with intellectual disabilities, as you will see in this video below that she made with Lauren Potter, one of her colleagues on the hit Fox television show.

In this PSA against the use of the R-words — retard and retarded — a comparison is made with racial slurs and it’s effectively jarring to watch.

Here it is, along with her opening night appearance at D9:

Lynch, in a three-minute fictional stint as the acting CEO of News Corp–Murdoch had to miss his customary opening slot due to an engagement in China–told the audience she was making a few changes in the operation, including shuttering The Daily (“Never heard of it, never used it, so clearly I’ll be shutting that down”) and keeping Glenn Beck at Fox for one final role as a dying patient on “House.”

Everyone likes OK Go's videos. Which makes it my obligation to show you "White Knuckles," the newest one, which has yet to actually go viral. If you like dogs and/or Target ads, you'll definitely like this one.

Everyone likes OK Go’s videos. Not as many people buy the band’s music, which is one of the reasons it’s now working without a label*.

In any case, here’s “White Knuckles,” the newest one, which has yet to actually go viral. If you like dogs and/or Target ads, you’ll definitely like this one (Bob Lefsetz likes the song better than the clip):

Bonus video! Another canine clip, featuring the awesome Jane “Sue Sylvester” Lynch:

*To be fair, the band would say it chose to leave EMI Music because it could do better on its own, and that’s not an unreasonable argument.

NBC’s “Late Night” television talk show host Jimmy Fallon is pretty geeky, which is why he tried this sketch about new apps for the new Apple iPhone 4.

Which Fallon does.

There are others too, yet another example of Apple (AAPL) getting boatloads of great free marketing via spoofs, such as this one with “Glee” star Jane Lynch.

The television hit, "Glee," is one of News Corp.'s crown jewels of late, while its MySpace social networking site has struggled painfully to regain its once-hot momentum.

Now MySpace is getting the benefit of the heat "Glee" is generating, by hosting the online auditions for the Fox television network show, which returns tonight after a short hiatus, as well as from a massive ad takeover of the site today.

Will "Glee"--an online phenom in its own right, with more than four million song downloads so far--give MySpace a boost?

The television hit, “Glee,” is one of News Corp.’s crown jewels of late, while its MySpace social networking site has struggled painfully to regain its once-hot momentum.

Now MySpace is getting the benefit of the heat “Glee” is generating, by hosting the online auditions for the Fox television network show, which returns tonight after a short hiatus.

“Glee”–an online phenom in its own right, with more than four million song downloads so far–is probably a good partner for MySpace as it tries to differentiate itself as a place where users can express their musical and entertainment passions.

This “discover and be discovered” concept is all part of a very slow-moving effort to turn MySpace into a socially-charged entertainment hub.

That effort will get a splashy rollout today with the first animated takeover of MySpace users’ personal homepages to coincide with the return of “Glee” (you can see it in action in the PDF below).

In the branded campaign, the character of Rachel (played by Lea Michele) becomes the profile picture, and evil cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch) pops out to shout a tune-in message about the show’s premiere, while blowing parts of the page away.

The bigger deal, of course, is the online casting call for “Gleeks,” as the show’s rabid fans are called, which MySpace is also hosting.

Professional and amateur performers between the ages of 16 and 26 can submit video auditions for the chance to have a re-occurring role on the show’s second season, choosing from songs featured in “Glee” and using the MySpace Karaoke tool.

Since it was launched March 30, the page has over a million friends and thousands of video submissions, which will be voted on. The casting call ends April 26.

Here’s a video interview of the effort that I did last week at the tony Chateau Marmont hotel with MySpace Music’s Courtney Holt, who worked on the deal, as well as a special guest star you might recognize.

<param name="flashvars" value="videoGUID=7A10806F-FA7F-4EA8-BAED-E2EEB1DFD5EC&playerid=4001&plyMediaEnabled=1&configURL=http://m.wsj.net/video-players/&autoStart=false" base="http://s.wsj.net/media/swf/"name="microflashPlayer">
[ See post to watch video ]

And here’s the takeover advertising:

Glee_MySpaceTAKEOVER_V3

Finally, here is the official press release:

NATIONWIDE OPEN CASTING CALL FOR “GLEE” BEGINS TODAY EXCLUSIVELY ON MYSPACE

Series Returns with All-New Episodes Tuesday, April 13, on FOX

Attention all GLEEks, the opportunity of a lifetime is coming your way! GLEE’s executive producers are holding a nationwide online casting search for fresh, young, talented performers to fill new roles that will be featured during the show’s second season. Beginning March 30, amateur and professional performers between the ages of 16 and 26 will have the opportunity to submit an audition video exclusively on MySpace at myspace.com/gleeauditions.

Hopefuls will be able to upload their videos beginning today through April 26. Videos must feature an explanation about why the auditioner wants to be on GLEE, as well as a demonstration of his/her stellar singing ability by performing one of 10 GLEE hits, including “True Colors,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Lean on Me.” Performances must be either a cappella or with single instrument accompaniment via MySpace Karaoke or by uploading their own pre-recorded videos. Audition videos must be limited to five minutes in length–a one-minute introduction and a four-minute song–and are limited to one submission per person. Fans will be able to share the videos across various networks, post comments and rate their favorites with gold stars. Visit myspace.com/gleeauditions for more information, song list and additional rules.

Television’s most award-winning new series, GLEE was recently honored with a Golden Globe for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical; a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series; and a People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy. The music from GLEE is an international sensation with “Glee: The Music, Volume 1″ and “Glee: The Music, Volume 2″ topping charts in Australia, the U.K., New Zealand, Ireland and Canada. In the U.S., over 4.5 million songs have been downloaded, and both albums have been certified Gold for sales in excess of 500,000 units.

The too-big-to-miss spring premiere of GLEE airs at a special time Tuesday, April 13 (9:28-10:30 PM ET/PT) following AMERICAN IDOL on FOX.

GLEE follows an optimistic teacher who–against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach–inspires McKinley High’s Glee Club to conquer the world one singing competition at a time. GLEE stars Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz.

GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante Di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.

MySpace is a technology company connecting people through personal expression, content and culture.
(Full disclosure: News Corp. owns Dow Jones, which also owns this site.)

In the interests of not keeling over from blogging exhaustion–one of my sons actually just called me a raccoon, due to the black circles under my eyes–BoomTown is taking a week off to, well, sleep.

While I am gone, the crack All Things Digital team will keep you up to speed on a wide range of tech news, all of which will be drowned out by the rollout on Saturday of the Apple (AAPL) iPad.

Oh, we’ll cover that too, of course.

In any case, as counterprogramming, please enjoy this very funny new video from “Glee,” one of many to get fans excited about the return of the television hit on April 13.

It is an event I am looking forward to as much as the iPad–so, maybe I will watch the new episodes on my new tablet to reach a state of glee.

This video features the sublime Jane Lynch, who plays nefarious cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, in one of her local-TV “Sue’s Corner” rants–this time, against non-swishy gays. It’s aptly called: “Sneaky Gays.”

(Full disclosure: Lynch and I are friends, but I’d find her hysterical even if she were my sworn enemy.)

Here’s the video–I”ll be back post-Easter and post-iPad mania on April 5:

Today, BoomTown is loading the wife and kids, along with mom, into our tricked-out All Things Digital Winnebago and heading to Park City, Utah, for the 26th Sundance Film Festival.

Now, what I know about independent filmmaking could fit neatly into a thimble, with room to spare.

But what has brought me back there for five years running is the chance to introduce those auteurs gathered on the frozen tundra to a slice of what’s to come from the digital world–for Sundance’s terrific New Frontier on Main series.

Increasingly, that matters a lot to those who make movies, especially those associated with smaller film efforts that might never see the light of a theater projector.

Thus, the tech sessions at Sundance are packed to the gills, with huge crowds turned away, because Hollywood knows what’s coming, and it has increasingly less control over it.

Imagine, for example, what the Apple (AAPL) tablet will mean to media giants in relation to entertainment distribution. And exactly how might you tell a story on a smartphone? Or not!

They can’t say they were not warned.

Last year, I interviewed a trio panelists: Chad Hurley, co-founder and CEO of the Google (GOOG) video service YouTube; Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu, the premium online video service and joint venture among News Corp. (NWS), Disney (DIS) and GE’s (GE) NBC Universal; and Reed Hastings, founder and CEO of Netflix (NFLX), the largest online DVD rental service, which has been moving into an ever wider range of movie distribution on the Web.

This year, my panel–which takes place Friday at noon and runs 90 minutes–is titled: “Spotlight on Social Media: Successful Strategies for Storytellers.”

Here’s the description:

“Today’s social media sites have the potential to bring content creators closer to audiences than ever before–creating new marketing opportunities for independents. But what more can be achieved? Can we create meaningful experiences through our profiles pages, or is it all just self-promotional clutter? Are the popular sites we use today the end of the line, or just a peek into the future?”

In other words: Will Twitter’s 140-character influence murder all creativity? Or just bruise it a little bit?

The subjects of my prying interview questions on this important issue include Robert Tercek, president of digital media for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network; filmmaker Ondi Timoner; Chris Gebhardt, head of Participant Media’s TakePart social media platform; David Eun, head of film partnerships for YouTube; MySpace’s Chief Product Officer Jason Hirschhorn; and Matt Jacobson, Facebook’s market development dude.

Whatever that means, since the hot Silicon Valley social networking site has done little in the way of storytelling as yet and much more in the way of pokes!

But, as ever, I shall strive to drag answers about innovation and more out of the lot of them.

Video to come, of course!

So, until I get there and thaw out the Flip digital video camera, here is my longish video from last year with the panelists, as well as cameos from my kids and once-indie film star and now TV hit queen Jane Lynch.

And below that, my 2008 Sundance video featuring Lynch and MySpace co-founder and former CEO Chris DeWolfe.

<param name="flashvars" value="videoGUID=7C793DD9-DE82-4456-AFCF-35A460938A9C&playerid=4001&plyMediaEnabled=1&configURL=http://m.wsj.net/video-players/&autoStart=false" base="http://s.wsj.net/media/swf/"name="microflashPlayer">
[ See post to watch video ]

[ See post to watch video ]

And if you want to know even more about Sundance, there is a new app on the iPhone for the festival. It costs $4.99, with the proceeds benefiting the not-for-profit Sundance Institute.

Please see this disclosure related to me and Google.

There certainly is a lot of noisy swirl of late around the escalating fight between Google and some traditional media companies over content online.

The loudest voice in this fight has clearly been News Corp. (NWS) kingpin Rupert Murdoch, who seemingly has not met a television interviewer of late he did not regale with tales of Google’s nefariousness.

Part of what he is saying is surely justified–it’s definitely a crisis for the news business.

And in Murdoch’s mind, the blame should largely fall on Google (GOOG), which he believes is profiting from expensive content others have created and that the search giant is not paying for to such a warped and massive degree that it makes a mockery of fair use.

In Silicon Valley style, Google defends itself by saying it sends valuable Web traffic to News Corp. and other sites, so perhaps a hand-written thank-you note is really the proper response.

That missive is definitely not in the mail from Murdoch, who instead has sent a series of poison-pen letters to Google.

Most notable is that he has threatened to “de-index” at least some of his content assets–which are not insubstantial–from the now-inevitable crawlers sent out by the search giant.

These are, of course, vintage tactics from the Global Media Mogul Playbook: Causing a public hubbub and spooking perceived enemies by threatening drastic action and implying dire consequences, while simultaneously dealmaking behind the scenes.

Trying mightily to make the stakes more dramatic, News Corp. has pulled Microsoft (MSFT) into the fray as a possible white knight–if you live long enough, you do see it all–for publishers.

Under this scenario, the software giant would fork over some sum of money to get News Corp. and perhaps other key content companies, such as Associated Press, exclusively and prominently featured on its Bing search site.

The reward, presumably, would be increased searching on Bing for the stuff consumers could now not find on Google.

BoomTown reported earlier this week that, in fact, Microsoft was unlikely to hand over any kind of king’s ransom to publishers.

As I wrote:

While a spate of reports has Microsoft execs girding the globe offering gobs of cash to content companies to block Google and favor its Bing search service, sources close to the situation caution that it is extremely unlikely that the software giant would pay giant sums for that pricey privilege, which many inside the company think will not help it gain much search share.

“While there is a lot of mutual interest, it’s doubtful Microsoft is going to pay to ‘rent’ a corpus of content that it does not own,” said one source close to the situation. “The economics are not there for anyone.”

In other words, this wrestling match is not about whether Google or Microsoft will serve up links to content online, but about how much–or not at all–they are willing to pay for doing so.

So, what’s really happening here? Here are five possibilities to consider, each of which is true in part:

1. Murdoch really means it.

In this scenario, Murdoch and others, like AP’s Tom Curley, truly believe that Google–like that creepy salt-seeking alien from “Star Trek”–is sucking the life out of the media industry by making bank from its news content, but not giving back nearly enough in return.

Of course, a lot of these companies have willingly done distribution deals with Google over the years.

But now they don’t like it because the increasing money being made by Google, even as their revenue has suffered, has developed into a growing problem.

Which is simply this: There is a lot more money to be made in searching for content than in making content.

This realization has to shake content czars like Murdoch to the core, but it is indeed the situation they find themselves in.

Murdoch makes a fair point in that journalism costs money to make and it used to have a solid economic system under it until Google and others on the Web disaggregated it wholly.

Thus, online aggregators become “tapeworms,” as The Wall Street Journal Managing Editor Robert Thomson quipped.

Thomson also, on a recent panel at the Web 2.0 conference, said to Google’s front page head, Marissa Mayer, that she “unintentionally encourages promiscuity.”

Ouch. That remark, which was was quite striking if you were there to hear Thomson say it, said volumes more.

(Full disclosure: News Corp. owns Dow Jones, which owns this site.)

2. Murdoch really means to create a lot of confusion, in order to shake down Google.

Well, it would not be the first time Murdoch and many others of his ilk have used public sharp elbows and saber-rattling to get what they want.

Except in this case, the algorithm experts over at Google know precisely–down to the tenth decimal–how much linking to News Corp. makes for them.

And it is not much, especially when looking at the vast sea of data Google serves up.

Its money-making is widely dissipated, from searches for vacation information to mapping to car-buying to health. While news-finding definitely is part of the mix, it is not at the center of the Borg.

Ironically–and oddly left out of this debate–it is Yahoo (YHOO) that has a lot of power in this arena, with massive content sites that shoot traffic all over the Web (including to this site).

But, what Google cannot and never can quantify–although I have seen co-founder Larry Page try once or twice–is the impact of public perception on the company, which has slowly morphed from being a benign, brightly-colored digital, librarian-like helper to a scary, answer-to-no-one, evil-doing monster.

The company’s growing influence over what people see and do not see on the Web is palpably frightening to publishers, advertisers and anyone who wants to be digitally discovered.

Bad luck for Google: Creating and then attacking bogeymen is a Murdoch talent, bar none.

3. Murdoch really means to create a lot of confusion, in order to shake down Microsoft.

Also obvious is the full-scale obsession Microsoft has with Google. While the software giant’s execs try to hide it, their panic over the success of Google has been tough on the once dominant tech company, which has struggled in the Internet arena.

Worse still, Google rakes in the dough, while Microsoft, um, does not.

Finally, this year, Microsoft has created–with no small amount of much needed innovation–Bing, a laudable effort that is starting to show some traction.

While Bing still has a very small market share compared with Google–by a factor of seven to one–it definitely has some momentum.

And, after much turmoil, Microsoft finally did a deft and relatively inexpensive deal to join with Yahoo in a search and advertising partnership to give them both more heft, which will surely help matters.

More important, one of the ways Bing has differentiated itself is via product innovations and intense focus on search niches, such as health.

In this topic area, for example, Bing has struck a not-expensive content licensing arrangement with the Mayo Clinic in order to better feature content.

This is smart business and offers consumers something better and different.

But overpaying big media publishers for the same thing, even if they de-indexed Google at the same time, is not smart, unless it is for really niche things like special financial information.

And even then, there are so many other sources of information out there, it would not take Google long to mount a similar offering, even in the face of some kind of OPEC of News consortium.

Even more–how much do consumers love OPECs of any kind? Not much!

Sources at Microsoft agree:

“If it was everyone, that might become interesting. But even that has issues, since Microsoft is not interested in having exclusive news for a temporary period of time by overpaying for it. It’s essentially a marketing expense, and there are a lot better ways to spend that money to win market share than giving it to publishers.”

Finally, Microsoft has been to the Murdoch party before too, having been part of talks to fold News Corp.-owned social networking site MySpace into Yahoo, had Microsoft prevailed in its attempt to acquire it.

Microsoft missed that pricey bullet and might be more inclined to grow Bing the old-fashioned way–via innovation, marketing and product improvements–rather than just using up too much of its energy trying to mess with Google.

4. A deal will be made.

My not-too-surprising prediction is that in the end, News Corp. and others will probably strike some kind of lesser deal with Microsoft–although it will tout the heck out of it–while taking some of its content behind a pay wall and thereby de-indexing it from Google.

More damaging would be if AP, which actually provides the most used news content online, removes its links completely from Google, because–unlike the premium content from other publishers–this is the bread and butter of consumer usage of content.

As to promotional material or links to television shows and movies from publishers like News Corp.? Well, it would seem the most self-destructive form of pique to remove those links from any of the top search engines.

That said, even if it really pissed me off for publishers to do so, I would probably switch to another search engine to find information on “Glee” if forced to. That’s how much I love those singing kids and Jane Lynch!

Finally, Murdoch has also threatened to challenge the fair use doctrine–which allows others to use copyrighted content within limits, as Google and many others do (such as this site).

While some think that is a bridge too far, it might be Murdoch’s best argument of all. Why should Google make a fortune on the content of others, even if only listing it? Doesn’t the sheer volume of what the search giant vacuums up make its reliance on fair use as a defense pretty ridiculous?

You can be sure Murdoch has his many lawyers and lobbyists all over this one, as does Google.

5. The truth is out there.

In perhaps his most strident television interview, with his Sky News Australia service (which you can see below–oh, the irony–on Google’s YouTube), Murdoch said about those who use Google to find News Corp. content:

“They don’t suddenly become loyal readers of our content. We’d rather have fewer people coming to our Web site but paying.”

That really is the honest truth in all this hubbub: Murdoch and other publishers have to find a way to get a some pool of dedicated online readers to pay enough to be able to then provide them with content that will keep them coming back for more.

That’s a business that Google truly cannot help or hinder, really.

And more to the point, it is also a business that Rupert Murdoch does seem to know a thing or two about.

Incredibly, the seventh D: All Things Digital conference begins tomorrow night, after a year of preparation, as we raced to the finish line this past weekend.

Here’s a BoomTown video I did over the weekend of the road trip here, some backstage shots and a staff trip to the movies on the last night we can all actually relax.

It includes: my mother being perplexed by Twitter (which will be fodder for a good question for co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone on opening night of D7 tomorrow); my assistant, Ed, getting threaded; our first D commercial by my friend and also new Fox television star Jane Lynch of “Glee” (incredibly, we realized that she and I now both work for Rupert Murdoch); and a short primer on this year’s show by my terrific partner, Walt Mossberg.

Here’s a longish video BoomTown did over the weekend at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, the famous annual independent film gathering now taking place in Park City, Utah.

I was there to moderate a panel on Saturday titled, “Where Do We Go From Here? Icons of the Digital Age.”

It was a great session, with a lot of insights as to where things are headed in the online video space and how that would impact the movie industry. Main conclusion: Significantly.

The trio of panelists were: Chad Hurley, the co-founder and CEO of the Google (GOOG) video service, YouTube; Jason Kilar, CEO of Hulu, the premium online video service that is a joint venture of News Corp. (NWS) and GE (GE) unit NBC Universal; and Reed Hastings, founder and CEO of Netflix (NFLX), the largest online DVD rental service, which has been moving into an ever wider range of distribution of movies on the Web. (News Corp. is the owner of Dow Jones and this Web site.)

I did interviews with each of them, as well as a chat with my only indie celebrity friend, Jane Lynch, some scenes from the festival and an intro and outro from my own little stars, Louie and Alex Swisher.

Here’s the video:

While at the Sundance Film Festival, I took a little tour of Park City, Utah, visiting with Chris DeWolfe and Dani Dudeck of MySpace and Sundance’s digital guru Ian Calderon and trudging up Main Street with my celebrity tour guide, Jane Lynch (who is about as hysterical as you get in “Best in Show” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”).

This is my third year at Sundance, where I moderate tech panels for the independent film festival.

Obviously, issues related to technology are becoming ever larger for the film community and most especially for the independent filmmakers, as they seek to get their material wider distribution than Hollywood’s current chokehold system provides.

The Sundance Film Festival is held annually in Park City and focuses on screenings of new indie films. Still, Sundance has been expanding additional offerings in the digital arena with panels throughout the festival.

The panel I moderated (see video here) was about online video, called “Webolution!–Hollywood Adapts to the Web.”

Here’s the video:
