Here is a deeply silly video of NBC late-night show host Jimmy Fallon and First Lady Michelle Obama competing in a potato-sack race.

You read that right. Also a push-up battle, a hula-hoop hip-off and a tug-of-war in the White House, all part of Obama’s “Let’s Move” exercise initiatives aimed at improving children’s health.

It’s got a goofy charm, and the kids will love it (mine did):

Because the Google guys — or someone over there in Mountain View — do understand at least one basic tenet of social behavior: If you see a line of people waiting to get in somewhere, you’ll want to get in, too.

Jimmy Fallon explains the concept with a little help from Seth Green, using Hollywood terms.

It’s no surprise that the sharps at Spotify understand this, too. Even though the music service only officially became available in the U.S. today, it has been handing out free accounts to press people, digital “influencers” and actual bona fide celebrities for a couple years.

And even today, Spotify is still only available to a limited number of people: The rest of the hoi polloi just get to read about it on Twitter and then wait their turn to get inside.

And if you like seeing how the head of a giant media conglomerate fares when he shows up on a taped comedy bit, pay attention around the 4:50 mark. That’s when NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke shows up for a few seconds to mug with a couple of his employees.

He’s not a dynamic actor, but then again, the part doesn’t require much. He just has to stand there as Poehler insults his network: “The new NBC: Nowhere to go but up.”

While BoomTown has had just about enough of the media frenzy around the wacky ruminations of actor Charlie Sheen, this spot-on impersonation of the high-on-life-and-other-stuff star by late-night television talk show host Jimmy Fallon is worth a watch.

It’s for a perfume called, of course, “Winning.”

(Also best Sheen-related tweet comes from comic Sarah Silverman: “If I hung out w 20 year old porn stars all the time time I’d think I was a genius too.”)

It’s short, and it’s good stuff. Ev Williams and Biz Stone come off as funny, likable and confident. Like the kind of guys that could run a cool company or something.

And here’s a good example of Fallon’s use of Twitter, from the same show:

The clips from the 2010 Emmy Awards went up fast and furious all over the Internet last night, almost as soon as the acts were performed live on Sunday evening from Los Angeles.

That especially includes the one below from the opening, in which MC Jimmy Fallon enlists an odd mix of celebs, some from the cast of the television hit “Glee” for a take-off on, yes, “Glee.”

While NBC’s online site was not so quick with the clips from the broadcast–although it eventually had many–others were, which is pretty much how these events go now.

Here is the opener video, along with another of Fallon bidding goodbye to “24″ and “Law & Order,” a very funny spoof with the cast of the superb “Modern Family” and a Twitter shout-out by Fallon:

Which means they’ll likely disappear from the Web sooner than later*, so watch ’em while you can:

*Guess it’s possible this is a clever hoax, too. It’s on the Web, right? But who would go out of their way to tell a reporter a lie?

Anyway, here’s a clever Twitter integration from Jimmy Fallon, whose late-night show is quite consciously tech-savvy. Topic of the day: Viewer responses to a “#whydonttheymakethat” hash tag.

I usually think of Twitter as a one-to-many media platform for self-promoters (not that there’s anything wrong with that). But this bit reminds us that the platform is indeed interactive. And if you figure out how to tap into that in a simple, effective way, you can do some interesting stuff.

Or at least, you can get your audience to write free comedy bits for your network TV show.

NBC’s “Late Night” television talk show host Jimmy Fallon is pretty geeky, which is why he tried this sketch about new apps for the new Apple iPhone 4.

Some are funnier than others, but BoomTown liked the “Bieber Yourself” app, inspired by the teen music heartthrob whose unfortunate haircut is well worth mocking.

Which Fallon does.

There are others too, yet another example of Apple (AAPL) getting boatloads of great free marketing via spoofs, such as this one with “Glee” star Jane Lynch.

Meantime, here’s a Web/TV merger that does make sense: NBC late-night host Jimmy Fallon,watching his own show on tape while commenting on it, live, on the Web.

Really, it does make sense: Like all late-night shows, Fallon’s is recorded in the afternoon, the day of broadcast. But next week, each night the show airs, Fallon will go live on the Web at 12:30 Eastern and provide a running commentary on the show, DVD-style. Fans will also be able to chat and interact with him, via video powered by UStream.

Pretty clever convergence, no?

Aside: Fallon’s show has always been a deliberately Web-friendly one. Fallon is a fairly famous Twitterer, which has caused some problems in the past, and the show goes out of its way to book tech-savvy guests like the Digg dudes.

And it’s also good about offering Internet-only goodies like this clip–an off-air encounter between Fallon and guest Jerry Seinfeld from last night’s show.

We’ve all seen it, that spiro-graphed, color-splotched invitation to Apple’s Jan. 27 event at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. Weekend Update isn’t on the inside, but we hear rumors that Jobs will storm the stage dressed as Moses, carrying the new tablet, which will be made of stone, under his robes. Apparently, that’s where it’s been hiding all along. Either that, or Weekend Update is going a little nuts from “tablet fatigue.”

Before we got to rumors, plans and all important educated guesses, AllThingsD spent the week doing reporting about real companies with products you can actually buy.

Walt’s column wasn’t exactly its normal, gadgety self this week. Maybe he’s saving his strength. Instead of the newest thing that won’t be leaving your pocket, he covered a service that claims to help you remember everything. Evernote, with its adorable little elephant logo, aims to be a sort of digital filing cabinet in the cloud, allowing you to save information, images, notes and just about anything else that can be digitized. Walt had good things to say all around, even if the available apps didn’t give every device the same functionality. Weekend Update liked the auto text-recognition feature that makes pictures of text searchable. We’ll never carry a business card home again. Neither rain nor snow nor tablet rumors can keep Walt from his appointed rounds at Mossberg’s Mailbox, and this week he grabbed a couple questions about e-readers, Microsoft’s (MSFT) Internet Explorer 8 and the right laptop for the young and litigious. Walt cleared up the myth that e-books can’t highlight text (even if they don’t do it in color yet), and then moved on to a question about what IE8 refers to as “accelerators.” Before tying up the mailbag strings for anther week, he also gave counsel to a future counselor. He recommended a moderately priced Windows 7 laptop or a Macbook for the incoming law student, though he suggested it would be a good idea to check with the school and current students for specific needs. Weekend Update thinks that last bit is extra good advice. Katie was busy this week testing the latest Bluetooth earpiece from Aliph’s Jawbone line. The Jawbone Icon is the first earpiece to run with a software package that allows the addition of apps just for the earpiece. Overall Katie thought the Icon represented a step forward for Bluetooth earpieces but hopes for upgrades to the app suite will bring more robust features. Oh yeah, and she was glad that they finally got rid of those tricky hidden control buttons.

At MediaMemo, Peter gave us the continued saga of e-magazines and the world’s slowest moving electronic construction project. It looks like the Time Inc. e-mag prototypes won’t be part of Wednesday’s Apple (AAPL) event even though there was a lot of hullabaloo over the company’s Sports Illustrated prototype. Condé Nast, on the other hand, has declared its GQ mag-as-app tests a success. No word yet on who will be three-quarters naked on the first 10-inch screen edition. Completing the out-with-the-print, in-with-the-electronic trifecta was Peter’s post about the New York Times pay-wall announcement. The Times claims it will erect a metered wall in 2011, which seems like an awfully long time in the shifting sands of the Web. Outside partners may be playing a factor, and some speculate that the 2011 date is just a declaration that New York Times Company (NYT) will be waiting-and-seeing. Peter doesn’t see what that would accomplish and cites experts who assert that a year isn’t an unreasonable amount of time to build a complex pay wall with necessary features.

Digital Daily was on the ball this week with John’s signature hard-hitting hilarity. His early report proved correct when sources suggested that the EU’s approval of the pending Oracle (ORCL)-Sun (JAVA) acquisition was nigh. Not to leave the tablet news out in the cold, John asked some important questions about a future tablet’s data consumption habits, and thinks it might end up in a class of its own. A big, beautiful screen means big, beautiful images and video, which mean gloriously huge file sizes. Hooray for Wi-Fi. To round out the week, John covered a story about Google (GOOG) co-founders Larry and Sergey planning to sell about $5.5 billion in stock over five years. We’re not sure whether the proper term is “cashing out” or “cashing in,” but they are going to be doing a lot of one or the other. The stock sale will remove them as a two-man majority voting block, but their remaining 47 percent will assure that their velvety duet will continue to ring clearly at board meetings.

Boomtown led off with some viral video for the ages. Jimmy Fallon one-upped the “pants on the ground” video by performing the sarcastic ballad as Neil Young. We’re not sure the audience caught that it was Jimmy right way, in part, because Young was making the TV rounds about that time, and in part, because Fallon does a surprisingly good Neal impression. Kara asked her readers to vote on the new tablet’s name, making “iPad” her own prediction. Kara has an eerie way of getting this stuff right so Weekend Update is gonna go ahead and get that tattoo this weekend. Kara finished the week with a quick post about her trip to Sundance and all the geektastic happenings there. Kara’s Winnebago, which we call “Operation Rolling Thunder,” was crammed full of wife, kids, mom, dog, and maybe a few stowaway Bay Area indie filmmakers who tied themselves to the undercarriage. Read the post; there’s never a dull moment on a Swisher expedition.

The bizarre but catchy “Pants on the Ground” rap song performance by Atlanta’s Larry Platt, delivered with verve during an audition for the “American Idol” television competition, now has two million views on YouTube and has spurred a plethora of comic knockoffs.

Although BoomTown completely enjoyed having dinner with entertainment agency overlord Ari Emanuel last week–hey, it was a Hollywood party at the Consumer Electronics Show, so name-dropping is required–I have little interest in the money and scheduling machinations that broke out last week over NBC Universal’s late-night television talk shows.

But I do love the roundelay of online videos this Tinseltown mess has created.

It all has to do with Jay Leno stinking up the joint in his newish 10 pm time slot, which has caused NBC affiliates to revolt, which–in turn–has sent broadcast network execs into a decided chicken-with-its-head-cut-off panic.

Thus, their big and cloddish idea to reschedule Leno back to late night, while trying to hipcheck Conan O’Brien from his 11:35 pm perch, all without incurring a big contract penalty fee. Jimmy Fallon, who comes on after O’Brien, is also part of the shovefest, as is after-Fallon host Carson Daly.

And, of course, all of them got to comment on all of this on–yes–the late-night comedy routines that open their shows.

Here are Leno and O’Brien riffing on the silly crisis–as well as ABC’s late-night host Jimmy Kimmel weighing in with Daly’s help–at the GE (GE) unit that was just bought by Comcast (CMCSA).

It was great!

And it finished off in style last night with an excellent bash featuring all of the same players, plus their bosses, on a rooftop garden in midtown Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center. The Founders Club, which really isn’t a club at all but a recurring high-end digital media schmooze, hosted the event and made sure it was populated with plenty of bold-faced names.

Among them: News Corp. (NWS) CEO Rupert Murdoch; IAC (IACI) CEO Barry Diller; Tim Armstrong, the former Google (GOOG) exec now running Time Warner’s AOL (TWX); Jon Miller, News Corp.’s newly appointed chief digital officer; NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker and several of his employees, including Jimmy Fallon.

More on Jimmy later. But here’s a clip of Diller introducing Armstrong and Miller to the crowd, featuring a brief cameo by Murdoch, who used to be Diller’s boss and is currently Miller’s boss. (And mine, too, since News Corp. owns Dow Jones, which owns this site). Apologies in advance for the Blair Witch camera work and the muted volume, which you’ll need to turn up in order to hear the speakers.

But I do think they’re worth listening to, particularly when Diller describes the old days, when a handful of companies in New York and Los Angeles controlled the media landscape. Now, Diller notes, “anybody who has a keyboard and a send button, can publish to the world, and that is an extraordinary change.” I think he was trying to say that this was a good thing, but to me it sounds a bit like a bittersweet eulogy.
