California Apple Store Could Let the Sun Shine In

An unnamed retailer has plans for a Santa Monica location with a giant glass ceiling. It looks awfully familiar.

Was Apple Planning on Doubling Its North Carolina Data Center All Along?

A quick update on Apple’s Maiden, N.C., data center and my post last week reporting that the company was considering doubling its size. Over the weekend, N.C. realtor Bill Wagenseller shot some new aerial video of the site that shows additional construction underway behind the current data center, which would seem to support that claim.

“Yellow Blotch” Display Complaints Mar iPhone 4 Launch Day

Early adopters beware: Apple’s new iPhone 4 officially went on sale earlier today and there are already reports of problems with it. Some new owners are seeing yellow discoloration on the phone’s Retina Display.

BoomTown Psychic Prediction: "iPad" Will Be Name of New Apple Tablet (Take a Poll to Make Your Guess!)

While “iSlate” is classier and “iTab” or “iTablet” more descriptive, BoomTown is making an all-in bet that Apple will use “iPad” as the brand name of its new tablet device, which is expected to be launched one week from today. Interestingly, there was an intriguing post on MacRumors today that pointed to new trademark filings from what it claims is a dummy Apple corporation, suggesting that iPad could be the moniker of the much anticipated device. While I claim no such source for my own Miss Cleo prediction, here’s my case for the iPad name and a poll where you can vote for your choice (not that Apple CEO Steve Jobs cares what we think!).

New iMacs May Include "Bag of Hurt" Option

Asked in October 2008 why Apple wasn’t yet offering Blu-ray DVD drives as an option on machines, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the licensing issues were too complex to make doing so worthwhile. “Blu-ray is a bag of hurt,” he quipped. Well, no longer. Because Apple is planning to refresh its iMac desktop computer in the next few weeks, and when it does, it may well offer a Blue-ray drive option.

Gadget Gods Peter Rojas and Ryan Block Finally Unveil their Newest Gadget Site: Gdgt. Get it?

Does the world need another gadget site? Yes, say two of the gadget world’s biggest stars, who are launching gdgt.com today. The site is the work of Peter Rojas, who helped build Gizmodo and Engadget, and Ryan Block, who took the torch from Rojas after he moved on. Gizmodo and Engadget are the best known and most powerful of the new generation of gadget sites, which makes Rojas and Block revered by the gadget gang and able to cobble together funding. But they’re still taking on a very crowded field.

BoomTown Decodes the Apple Dumps Macworld Press Release (The "Yes, Virginia" Version)

Boomtown extends apologies to the late Francis P. Church, who penned the original “Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus” editorial in the New York Sun in 1897. But with a little rejiggering, his eloquent words work perfectly as a translation for Apple’s press release about its withdrawal from Macworld yesterday, which doubtlessly shook the Apple faithful to the core. Oddly enough, it matches up surprisingly–and a little disturbingly–well. Thus, here’s a little holiday inspiration to help those poor souls make it through these darkest of days.

Monday Morning Quarterback 5: Is There Some Phone Launching This Week?

The big question for me is: What will all the iPhonatics do after the much-hyped iPhone from Apple debuts this Friday to continue to feed their state of expectant euphoria? iPhone 2.0! But until then, we might as well wallow in it. So here is a funny report from Engadget about the imagined possibilities for [...]
