Myspace, the struggling website that fueled the first major wave of the social Internet, announced Monday that it had hired two new vice presidents to prepare the company for its major relaunch this year. New VP of global marketing Christian Parkes comes most recently from Levi’s, and held a similar previous position at Nike. Joseph Patel will be Myspace’s VP of content and creative, and was most recently a senior producer at Vice Magazine.

Facebook Continues Testing Free Wi-Fi With Cafe Partners

Facebook is in the midst of a small program with a handful of cafes in the San Francisco and Silicon Valley areas. In the program, first noticed by Inside Facebook, Facebook provides its partner cafes with free routers, and customers check in to the business on Facebook in order to access the Internet. The service is being tested inside Philz Coffee in San Francisco, according to Hunter Walk, as well as a handful of Palo Alto cafes.

Google Ventures-Backed Start-Up TrueLens Nabs $1.2 Million

Social analytics start-up TrueLens announced Monday that it closed a $1.2 million round of funding led by Google Ventures. Other participants in the round include Charles River Ventures, Common Angels, 500 Startups and Boston Seed, as well as a handful of other angel investors. After compiling and analyzing data from multiple social networks, TrueLens offers more granular customer information to brands for marketing campaigns.
