Nielsen Claims Microsoft's Bing Moves to No. 2 Search Slot Over Yahoo

In what will surely cause a firestorm of controversy in the search arena today, the Nielsen Co. is reporting that–for the first time–Bing has pushed past Yahoo in August to become the No. 2 search engine in the United States. That contrasts with the July report from comScore, which shows that Bing had an 11 percent share and Yahoo had a 17.1 percent share.

Facebook Sets Deal to Provide Ad Data to Nielsen

Facebook Inc. plans to announce a deal with online measurement company Nielsen Co., in a step to address advertisers’ frustration with measuring how ads perform on the social network. Under the partnership, Facebook will begin polling its users about some of the display ads it runs on its site, such as a banner promoting a movie release.

And there are more deals to come, with cellphone makers like Palm and Motorola, as the smartphone market keeps heating up. Too bad for fast-growing Facebook and others that there’s no money to be made yet.
