Goldman to Offer Facebook Shares Only to Non-U.S. Clients

Announcing Google WindSense

Google has announced plans to invest in the Atlantic Wind Connection, a project that will connect 6,000 megawatts of offshore wind turbines to the Mid-Atlantic power grid. In the blog post announcing the initiative, Rick Needham, Google’s green-business operations director, described it as a “superhighway for clean energy.” According to the Washington Post, the tech giant is part of a consortium of tech and investment firms involved in the project, the first phase of which is valued at $1.8 billion.

So much for IBM’s lifetime employment concept. In 2009, the company sacked as many as 10,000 employees. Now comes word of thousands more losing their jobs in what the company likes to refer to as “resource actions.”

The ax is indeed swinging at Big Blue. Following reports that it is preparing to cut thousands of jobs in its global services unit, IBM said Thursday it has begun notifying employees of what it likes to euphemistically refer to as “resource actions.” IBM refused to disclose the number of employees affected, but Lee Conrad, spokesman for a union group called Alliance@IBM, said at least 1,674 in the company’s Application Services unit will lose their jobs.
