Even If He’s Not at Apple Event, Steve Jobs Sure Knows How to Put on a Show

Remember: Anything can happen. Anything can be.

Invasion of the iPad Snatchers: My First Jobs Keynote Ever

After all these years of covering tech, BoomTown is a little embarrassed to admit that I have never attended in person one of the legendary keynote speeches delivered by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. This year I finally said yes–to an invite to the Wednesday event, at which a new tablet computer is likely to be unveiled to the fervent Apple faithful, but it immediately made me think of the iPods, oops, pods, in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” Note to self: Do not fall asleep.

Oh, One More Thing: The iPhone 4G–On Verizon

Though the debut of Apple’s mythical tablet at the company’s invitation-only special event next week and the rapture with which it will inevitably be met obviate the need for a closing “one more thing” announcement, Apple may deliver one anyway. Three, actually. IPhone OS 4.0. And the iPhone 4G–on Verizon.

Macworld ’09: One Last Thing–DRM-Free iTunes Plus, 3G iTunes and Tony Bennett

Looks like today’s keynote will include a “One More Thing” moment after all, even without Steve Jobs to deliver it. And it will focus on iTunes. Three big updates to the iconic software, today. Plus, Tony Bennett to close out the keynote with two of his most familiar–and given the venue, appropriate–songs.

Analysts: Macworld 2009 a "Modest" and/or "Neutral" Event

With Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide product marketing, delivering the Macworld keynote today, analyst expectations for big product announcements are running very, very low.

This Week in Tech: A Dull CES, but (Gasp!) an Even Duller Macworld!

BoomTown is not saying it’s going to be like watching grass grow. But 2009 is not exactly getting off to a rousing start this week–with two underwhelming blockbuster tech events taking place that already have more of an air of whimper than of bang to them. That would be the Consumer Electronics Show, the annual egregious gadgetfest in Las Vegas, and the final appearance by Apple at Macworld. Of course, while CES tries to fend off the spate of no-one-is-going-to-CES stories–well, I am!–the absence of his digital Holiness and Apple CEO Steve Jobs at Macworld has really generated most of the glumness.

Oh, One More Thing…C'mon Out Steve

With just days to go before the 25th Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco kicks off Tuesday morning, speculation about what Apple may or may not unveil during senior vice president Philip Schiller’s keynote address is mounting. Among the rumored possibilities: a preview of Snow Leopard, a long-overdue update to the Mac Mini, new iMacs and perhaps an appearance by CEO Steve Jobs himself.
