We don’t normally post recall notices to AllThingsD, but this one might be of special interest to readers who attended our D9 conference earlier this month. Pogoplug is recalling its Pogoplug Video device for potential overheating problems, and if you were at D9, you received one in your schwag bag.

You're Charging It Wrong

After 27 overheating incidents, six fires and four customers with minor burns, Apple Japan has offered replacements for first-generation iPod nano mp3 players that overheat while charging. The Japanese government has been highly critical of the company for its delay in confirming and reporting these and 34 other “non-serious” cases of overheating. Apple reports that the defect can be traced to a specific battery supplier.

“Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause iPad to temporarily stop working properly.” That’s the warning given to new iPad owners in the device’s user manual and Apple’s support forums as well — a warning that evidently went unheeded by a trio of early adopters who are now suing the company claiming the iPad doesn’t operate properly at high temperatures.

What an ugly week for Apple. Voice and data reception issues plaguing iPhone 3G, MobileMe still not up to company standards, and now reports of sparking iPod Nanos. Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is investigating a possible battery defect in Apple’s older iPod Nano music players after receiving reports of minor fires caused by overheating devices.
