Yet Another E-Reader–With a Stylus This Time

IRex Technologies threw its hat into the increasingly crowded U.S. e-reader market Wednesday with the launch of its new device, the DR800SG. The DR800SG will cost $400 and features an 8.1-inch screen and 3G wireless connectivity with carrier Verizon. In a retro move reminiscent of the Palm Pilot, the e-reader comes with a stylus pen to navigate the on-screen menus.

With Jeff Hawkins, Donna Dubinsky founded Palm in 1992 and went on to become its CEO. She was part of the brains behind the Palm Pilot–the standard-setting personal digital assistant–upon which Palm built its business. Dubinksy has a long and storied history at Palm and one that will soon end. According to a recent SEC filing, she will soon resign from the company’s board of directors.

This weekend in San Francisco, the second annual iPhoneDevCamp 2 is underway. Whereas the first confab focused primarily on Web applications, this one has a definite native application flavor, thanks in large part to the fact that the iPhone software development kit (SDK) is out of beta and now available for developers. When the iPhone was released in June, many developers were disappointed by the absence of an SDK for writing third-party applications on day one.
