Yahoo this week will begin allowing users to participate on its properties without signing in to a Yahoo account. It’s a significant move for the company, which had for a long time incessantly popped up login screens whenever visitors tried to do seemingly anything on the site.

News Corp. Sells Fox Mobile Group to Investment Firm

News Corp. said Wednesday it had sold its Fox Mobile Group unit to Jesta Group, an investor firm. The mobile entertainment unit, which had been on the block for a while, includes Jamster, Mobizzo and mobile video service BitBop.

Google, Myspace Finally Land New Ad Deal

Google and Myspace have finally struck a new ad deal, replacing the three-year, $900 million pact that expired this fall. The two companies aren’t handing out details on the new pact, but have made it clear that it’s not going to be anything like the old one, which provided Myspace and the rest of News Corp.’s Web properties with massive guaranteed payments.

Ad Dollars Shrink at the New York Times, Again

Three months ago, the New York Times seemed to have halted its advertising skid after a very long slide. Perhaps it has started up again. Ad revenue dropped one percent during Q3: Digital revenue jumped 14.6 percent, but that wasn’t enough to counter a 5.8 percent drop in print ads. Things don’t look great for Q4, either. The executive turmoil at the very top of Yahoo continues, with the company poised to announce the resignations of three top execs, including U.S. head Hilary Schneider, according to sources close to the situation. The other execs also leaving, which Yahoo is planning on revealing Friday: U.S. Audience head David Ko and, as BoomTown previously reported, VP of Media Jimmy Pitaro.
