“Smart” Scale-Maker Withings Raises $30 Million to, Well, Scale

Withings, a France-based maker of digital-health devices, has raised $30 million in venture capital funding from Bpifrance, Idinvest Partners, 360 Capital Partners and repeat investor Ventech. Withings makes a Wi-Fi-connected scale that automatically sends your weight data to your phone; it also makes a smart baby monitor and, most recently, a wearable activity-tracker called the Pulse. The company plans to use the funding to further expand overseas and build up its research and development teams.

LinkedIn Shares Reach Record High

Not two days after Kara Swisher reported that LinkedIn would soon acquire the Pulse news reader app for more than $50 million, shares of LinkedIn were trading at a record high on Wednesday morning, reaching $181.47 at their peak before settling back down around $179, a gain of about 2 percent for the day. The company also reported record earnings last quarter, outperforming analysts’ expectations.
