After all Meg Whitman’s moneybagging and all those demon sheep thrown by Carly Fiorina, polls right now are showing that it is unlikely either of them is going to emerge victorious in tomorrow’s elections in California.

While the pair might pull it out, given how the GOP is surging this election cycle, most expect them not to do so.

Whitman has handed over a giant pile of her eBay-generated fortune in an attempt to be the Republican governor of the Golden State, which seemed to have been working–until it didn’t.

In fact, it seems as if her wealth–and various controversies around it, such as IllegalMaidGate–has diminished her efforts to paint herself as CEO of California.

While she was way up over the summer over Democratic rival Jerry Brown, she has been trailing him recently.

And, although the race has tightened up, surveys show Brown is still ahead, such as a Rasmussen Reports survey that showed him up 49 percent to Whitman’s 45 percent.

In the Senate contest, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Fiorina seems to be more certainly headed for defeat.

A new Field Research poll gives Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer 49 percent to Fiorina’s 41.

And while both candidates drastically oversold their business credentials as just the thing the troubled state needs, it seems the magic of tech in California does not necessarily transfer to voter enthusiasm quite so neatly.

But, let’s not end this election without another look at the infamous–and accidentally hysterical–”Demon Sheep” television ad by Fiorina against her GOP-nomination opponent Tom Campbell.

That video is followed by a very funny rejoinder, “Demon Sheep II: The Fleecing of California.”

Enjoy:

While Facebook is under fire for disclosing more data about its users to the public, Facebook is also touting that data about its users shows that they are increasingly diverse, with a racial and ethnic breakdown that nearly mirrors the overall diversity of the U.S. population, according to a blog entry posted on the social networking site on Wednesday.

While Facebook users in the U.S. were primarily white and Asian in the beginning of 2006, blacks and Latinos are increasingly joining the site, and now comprise 11 percent and 9 percent of Facebook users, respectively. And 6 percent of U.S. Facebook users are Asians, down from about 8 percent four years ago.

Facebook data team researchers Lars Backstrom, Jonathan Chang, Cameron Marlow and Itamar Rosenn wrote that they were interested in finding out more about the composition of race and ethnicity among Facebook users.

It's easy to get the impression that everyone uses Twitter. And many people do! But new statistics indicate that four of five Web users are still Twitter-free. Worth keeping in mind as Google and Microsoft start plugging tweets into search results.

The digerati spend a lot of time talking about Twitter’s growth, Twitter’s business and Twitter’s dealmaking. But at this point, many of us tend to take Twitter’s users for granted: We assume that everyone uses it, or at least everyone we know.

But we’re not exactly right. New statistics from the Pew Internet Project indicate that 19 percent of U.S. Internet users are on the service on a regular basis. To spell out the obvious: One in five is a lot of people, but it’s not everyone.

This is worth remembering as Google (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT) move to integrate Twitter updates into search results: Those results come from a particular slice of Web users.

Here’s Pew’s breakdown of that slice, by gender, race and other demographic markers:

Pew says the average age of a Twitter user is 31 (MySpace, 26; Facebook, 33; LinkedIn, 39). And it has some other stats that are useful–and, if you use the service, evident.

For instance, Twitter and mobile are a peanut butter/chocolate combination–25 percent of Internet users with wireless access use the service, compared with eight percent of those who are tethered. And, not surprisingly, gadget junkies are Twitter junkies too: 39 percent of Web users with four or more Internet devices use the service, compared to 10 percent with one device.

The full report is embedded below:

BoomTown simply cannot resist the irresistible urge to compare the gripping quest for gold by U.S. Olympic team rowers (and, as you can see here, left to right, identical twins) Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss with their more lackluster effort to grab a piece of Facebook via a lawsuit.

In an unlikely upset in the semifinal of the men’s pairs, the hunky brothers placed second and will go on to the finals on Saturday.

Apparently, the Winklevosses actually have some magical come-from-behind in them.

Although they were sucking wind in the first part of the race yesterday, they surged in the last 500 meters of the course to the fastest time of 1:34.34, which vaulted them from fifth place of six boats.

Their overall time was 6:36:65.

Thus, Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg might want to be a tiny bit scared. After all, the Winklevosses have lagged behind badly so far in their fight with him over whether the ideas and programming of their ConnectU service were stolen at Harvard University in the creation of Facebook.

At this point, the Winklevosses have essentially lost their case, but they are still arguing with Facebook over the confusing valuation of the hot social- networking site (much as Facebook employees are!).

While I doubt they can pull off a Hail Mary with regard to Facebook, let’s all keep our fingers crossed that they can grab a pair of well-deserved medals this Saturday.

Also, here is a link to an pre-Olympic video interview with Cameron Winklevoss and one with Tyler Winklevoss on row2k.com (they are unembeddable…grrrr).
