Foursquare on Monday unveiled a new
numbers-based ratings system for locations within the mobile app. When users look for locations to visit using the “Explore” feature, places are ranked on a 10-point scale, taking into account signals like tips, loyalty and popularity. In a jab to competitor Yelp, Foursquare claims it’s more informative than a one- to five-star ratings system, which relies on users and ultimately averages out to give little information.
