U.S. retail e-commerce growth slowed in both May and June from levels a year ago, comScore said today.

The research firm said U.S. retail e-commerce (ex auctions, autos and large corporate purchases) grew 12 percent in May and 11 percent in June. That compared with 15 percent in April and 25 percent in June 2007. According to comScore, there were no indications that consumers have been spending their Federal economic stimulus checks on goods purchased on the Web. “Recent comScore research reveals that fully two-thirds of consumers said they had not planned to spend their stimulus checks and rather intended to use the cash to pay off debt or put the money into savings.” Americans behaving rationally with their money? Are they serious?
