Fitbie: MSN and Rodale Launch Health and Fitness Site

MSN is launching a new health and fitness site called Fitbie today, in partnership with Rodale. It’s yet another move into niche content sites by the Microsoft portal, similar to those being made by AOL, Yahoo and Demand Media in an effort to dominate key consumer categories. Fitbie will be powered by MSN, which will sell advertising for it. Rodale is providing both original content and also material from its magazines, such as Men’s Health.

Starbucks Now Serving Special Blend of Digital Content

Starting today, Wi-Fi-equipped Starbucks patrons will have access to the free Starbucks Digital Network, developed in connection with Yahoo and delivering a mix of consumer-friendly content that should keep loiterers nursing their lattes for hours. Among the offerings: Free access to subscription news sources (including The Wall Street Journal), music from iTunes, wellness articles from Rodale, check-ins via Foursquare and reviews from Zagat.

Forbes Starts a Second Round of Layoffs; Who Else Will Join It?

Forbes Media has begun a new round of layoffs and will let go of more than 50 people on its editorial and business teams, I’m told. The cuts are roughly proportional to the ones the business publication made in November and January when it consolidated its Web and magazine operations. The question for the rest of the industry: How many other publishers will have to make a second round of cuts themselves?
