Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell are older and healthier. And they would like a check from YouTube.

“Lazy Sunday” is more than six years old. You kind of have to give the “Saturday Night Live” people credit for not remaking it earlier.

But here it is: See, Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell are older, healthier, and they go to Broadway shows, not movie matinees. But they’re still rapping about Rachel McAdams.

The best line, of course, is Samberg’s shout-out to Google — a reminder that he’s still waiting for a “fxxxing YouTube check” for the first “Lazy Sunday,” which NBC doesn’t allow on the video site anymore.

But Samberg’s other viral videos are all proudly displayed on a YouTube channel. And while the clip helped build YouTube into a powerhouse that sold to Google for $1.6 billion, it also helped revive SNL and build Samberg’s career. So everybody did just fine.

And here’s the original (which on NBC’s SNL page, at least, came bundled with an ad for… “Sister Act”).

Here is the red-band trailer from the upcoming movie “The Dictator,” which stars Sacha Baron Cohen.

Simply put: It looks hysterical, even if all the jokes are in this video.

The troublemaking Cohen also appeared on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend, torturing famed film director Martin Scorsese.

It killed.

Enjoy both:

Or Hulu, for that matter. Luckily, there's always Gawker.

The great thing about Saturday Night Live and the Internet is that you don’t have to watch Saturday Night Live anymore. Because of the Internet.

Do whatever you want on Saturday night, and on Sunday morning, you can see all of the show online, legally, for free. Your cyber-pals will have already told you which clips you should seek out, and NBC has gotten so good at this that it now hires a “social media marketing” firm to seed the Internet with embeddable highlights.

Easy. Except when it’s not. Periodically, NBC ends up in a position where it can’t use the Internet to distribute its TV show, because someone complained about a copyright issue after the show aired.

And that’s apparently what happened this weekend to this excellent “Game of Thrones” parody, which you can see on Gawker but not NBC or Hulu. (The clip stays up on Gawker, apparently, because either no one complained or because Gawker hasn’t listened to their complaints; I’ve asked Nick Denton and company for clarification.)

So who griped? Not us, say HBO’s reps, and that makes sense, since the clip is first and foremost a great ad for the pay channel.

“Rights issue,” says NBC, without elaborating. So the best guess here is that someone who owns the rights to the “Game of Thrones” soundtrack complained.

That soundtrack comes from LA-based Varèse Sarabande, which specializes in film scores and soundtracks, and is distributed by Universal Music Group. I’ve asked Universal to confirm that the label complained, so we’ll see. But it’s a pretty good bet, because music rights are almost always the cause of this kind of thing.

That’s because music is particularly difficult to clear, even by byzantine digital media rights standards. Each song is composed of two elements, the recording and the underlying composition, and each one of those elements can have multiple owners and … ugh.

Amazing anything gets cleared, ever. And for a show that gets built on the fly, like SNL does, every week, even more amazing.

So nothing to do here, I guess, but shrug. Things are a lot better than they were way back in 2005, when NBC was befuddled by “Lazy Sunday” and YouTube. And at least Saturday Night Live’s writing staff can still point us to the Gawker clip, which has racked up some 300,000 views in the last couple days.

Google's prices may be dropping, but that shouldn't freak investors out.

You want to hear Larry Page and company talk about Android and Google+ and YouTube and maybe even Google Goggles this afternoon? Me, too.

But if last quarter’s earnings call is a guide, we’ll end up hearing a lot about CPC — the cost that Google charges search advertisers for every click.

Wall Street freaked out three months ago because Google’s CPC declined for the first time in years. And the same thing could happen this time out, as well — several analysts are predicting a 10 percent CPC drop for Q1 earnings today.

And if that does happen, Google executives will end up making the same argument they made last time: Chill out! If our prices have gone down, that’s no big deal, because we’re selling a lot more stuff. Microsoft has yet to slow Google’s growth, and Facebook doesn’t seem to be doing that, either.

This is a pretty persuasive argument, and this is what it looks like in chart form: A couple years’ worth of real and estimated search advertising growth, via Nomura analyst Brian Nowak. That growth doesn’t all accrue to Google, but as long as Google gets the lion’s share of it, it’s hard to get freaked out about pricing. You really can make it up on volume.

Speaking of volume:

SNL’s Andy Samberg may look a lot like Mark Zuckerberg — and act like him, too — but does that mean he’s qualified to start a tech company?

The comedian, who played the Facebook CEO on “Saturday Night Live” and even appeared at Facebook’s developer conference, has co-founded the new travel start-up CanaryHop.

The Los Angeles-based company is creating a marketplace where travelers can look for tours from well-established vendors or any individual professing to have a skill and looking to make a few bucks.

CanaryHop officially launched yesterday.

The site explains that a “Canary” is “a tour guide, a local, someone with a special talent, a person who is passionate about their community, an expert at something, or a teacher.” For example, it could be a professional chess player willing to give lessons, someone who runs a surf camp, or simply a foodie who knows the best restaurants in Chinatown.

Meanwhile, a “Hopper” is a traveler.

Still don’t get it?

Samberg does his best to act out how it works in a funny and pretty entertaining video. In it, he wakes up not knowing where he is, but for some reason has a bunch of new talents, like being able to speak French, throw knives and charm snakes. Unfortunately, you’ll have to visit the site here in order to see it.

Instead, here’s Samberg impersonating Zuckerberg on SNL, right after the release of “The Social Network”:

Here’s Andy Samberg from last week’s “Saturday Night Live,” trying his very worst to channel Sarah Palin in the absence of Tina Fey. It’s related to HBO’s recent original movie, “Game Change,” about the 2008 presidential campaign. Palin, who was the GOP VP candidate, dismissed the highly rated cable show as “Hollywood lies.”

Whatev, but this is funny:

Lindsay Lohan hosted “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, which gave the late-night comedy show a big 12 percent ratings boost and a few decent viral videos.

The talented actress-turned-perennial-tabloid-queen is not without her controversies, and Twitter was brutal in its assessment of her performance, especially her excessive use of … cue cards.

This one was typical:

This may be the first time Lindsay Lohan had trouble doing lines. #SNL

I actually thought she was pretty funny, including in her opener and also in the priceless “Real Housewives of Disney” sketch, both seen here:

Another round of rumors that Cisco is out to sell its TV set-top box business gets slapped down.

Someone certainly wants the world to believe that Cisco Systems is getting out of the business of selling TV set-top boxes and spent what appears to have been a busy weekend telling reporters that it’s happening.

How then to explain Cisco’s strong denials of an interest in selling — and its reaffirmation of love for — the set-top box business it got as part of its $7 billion acquisition of Scientific Atlanta six years ago?

To be clear, Cisco is no longer in the business of actually making these boxes. It unloaded the Mexico-based manufacturing portion of the business to Taiwan’s manufacturing giant Foxconn as part of its sweeping reorganization last year.

The “Cisco is selling” story appeared both in the online trade publication Light Reading and also in the New York Post (which, like this Web site, is owned by News Corp.)

This is a familiar rumor that crops up from time to time. The last time was in the fall, and the source was a speculative report in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Typically, companies can ignore this type of chatter and dismiss it with the standard “no comment on rumor and speculation.” But seeing how this is the kind of rumor and speculation that often turns out to be true, and as such has a way of sapping the morale of otherwise productive employees, Cisco sought to get in front of it by professing its love for its set-top box unit in a statement to Light Reading.

CEO John Chambers recently stressed his commitment to set-top boxes even as the business dragged down Cisco’s overall gross margins. Analyst Sanjiv Wadhwani of Stifel Nicolaus estimates that Cisco’s gross margins on set-tops are in the mid 30 percent range, which is about what you’d expect for competitive hardware of any kind, but it’s also half of what Cisco gets across the rest of its business. As such, a sale would boost Cisco’s gross margin overall by about 1 percent, he said in a note to clients today.

During a conference call to discuss earnings earlier this month, Chambers said Cisco is “very much committed to this marketplace.” The point for sticking with it is to help customers move from old-school set-top boxes to IP-based products like Cisco’s Videoscape, he said. Presumably, the transition work means holding on to the set-top box customers.

But if you’re one of the writers who fell for the latest bit of rumor-mongering — and who doesn’t once in awhile? — you’re probably quoting Emily Litella from 1970s-vintage “Saturday Night Live” and sheepishly saying, “Never mind.”

Here are two terrific videos from “The Artist” star Jean Dujardin, in which he shows just why everyone is raving over the sleeper movie hit and his knockout performance.

In the first, for Funny or Die, he’s looking for his next part — in an hysterical string of typical Hollywood film villain roles that foreign actors always get.

In the second, Dujardin made a surprise appearance on last week’s “Saturday Night Live,” mocking his own breakout effort, in a skit called “French Dance.”

All this 4G talk is quite confusing, as the sketch-comedy crew points out in a commercial parody.

Verizon has spent quite a bit of time and money trying to teach Americans the term 4G LTE.

“Saturday Night Live” spent 30 seconds pretty much destroying those efforts.

In a commercial spoof, SNL has a Verizon sales person touting LTE without really saying what it does, and also mocking the company for just throwing out all kinds of device names. What, a customer wonders, does all that really mean?

“Let’s say you’ve got the new HTC Thunderbolt, or even the LG Vortex. You can hook up your HTC or your LG to your 4G LTE and you’ll have Verizon’s 4G LTE in over 190 cities.”

“So, it’s faster?” the guy asks.

“Well, let’s say you’ve got the new Droid Razr by Motorola or the HTC Rezound or even the Samsung Galaxy Nexus,” the salesman says. “You are talking 4G LTE on almost our entire 3G footprint.”

One song is four seconds, the salesman continues. “The song is four seconds?” the confused customer asks, before the sales guy throws out more stats.

Verizon, the ad concludes, “It’s an old person’s nightmare.”

Anyway, it’s worth a watch:

With the fantabulous singer Adele winning all over the ying-yang at the Grammy Awards last night, it’s time to revive the classic “Saturday Night Live” spoof from late last year on her winning weeper, “Someone Like You.”

It makes everyone, including the janitor, cry like little babies upon hearing the song. All true and this skit nails that fact of life perfectly.

(Just like the Oscars are voted on by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.)

The ceremony covers mostly hardcore genres across console and PC, including action games, massive multiplayer games, adventure games and more. It also has categories for casual, mobile and social. (Update: See a list of some winners at the end of this post.)

The event is taking place in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Resort, a swank location way off the Strip, where industry leaders gather annually as part of the games conference called DICE.

DICE, which stands for Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain, is a three-day summit featuring a number of talks by bigwigs from game studios like Bethesda Softworks, which published The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham City, which were both wildly successful over Christmas.

Because the show is far off the Strip and only has a few hundred attendees, it allows people to speak intimately about recent trends and key issues facing the industry. They even get to pat each other on the back; this morning, one grown man got on stage and bowed in front of some of the original game developers who worked at Atari back in the 80s.

The event tonight will be hosted by actor and stand-up comedian Jay Mohr, a former cast member on “Saturday Night Live” and self-described games enthusiast, who is known for roasting some of the industry celebrities being recognized.

The ceremony kicks off at 7:30 pm PT. To follow along, GameSpot will air a live Webcast of the IAAs here.

Update: Here are the winners from some of the major categories:

Game of the Year: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda Softworks

Action Game: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Activision

Online Game Play: Star Wars: The Old Republic, Electronic Arts

Mobile Game: Infinity Blade II, Epic Games

Sports Game: FIFA 12, Electronic Arts

Social Networking: The Sims Social, Electronic Arts

Casual Game: Fruit Ninja Kinect, Halfbrick Studios

But these two “Saturday Night Live” clips from last night might still be up your alley.

(By the way, before we get there: I didn’t watch “SNL” last night, and no one in my Twitter stream seems to have been interested, either. But the reason I’ve seen these is because I got an email this morning from “social media agency” New Media Strategies, which NBC is using to promote yesterday’s show. I believe I’ve noted this before, but we’ve come an awful long way from NBC’s befuddlement over “Lazy Sunday” showing up on YouTube. Then again, it’s been six (!) years.)

A reminder that typing and texting is dangerous/funny:

And a weird one that mocks the Internet audience that it hopes will end up watching and talking about this. “I have no shame or self-awareness”:

While hosting “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, Alec Baldwin apologized for the meltdown that resulted in him getting kicked off a plane.

Except that it wasn’t much of an apology at all.

Instead, Baldwin played the role of an American Airlines captain who apologized to him.

During a Weekend Update skit with Seth Meyers, the mustached captain called Baldwin an “American treasure,” explaining that the actor was justified for refusing to stop playing Words With Friends on his phone.

“What harm was he causing to play his game?” the “captain” asked. “And not just any game, but a word game for smart people?”

Ultimately, it wasn’t the Scrabble-like game that got Baldwin booted. He also slammed a bathroom door. According to the very forgiving captain, “Words With Friends can be frustrating.”

The original saga, which played out very publicly via Baldwin’s Twitter account, provided a high-profile boost to Zynga, the game maker behind Words With Friends, which is getting ready to stage the largest Internet IPO since Google.

Here’s Baldwin’s — a.k.a. the captain’s — account of how it all went down:

This weekend, “Saturday Night Live” did a fantastic mocking of the recent quickie divorce of the sham marriage of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries.

The reality show famebots are — let’s all admit it — media and digital geniuses at making their traffic-accident lives into audience gold (-plated).

Here’s the “SNL” sketch, with the genius Kristen Wiig as the spotlight-stealing Kris Jenner:

This did not make it onto “Saturday Night Live” last weekend, but it is still very funny — a mock interview by Charlie Rose of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, the Huffington Post’s Arianna Huffington, Reed Hastings of Netflix and the world’s oldest “mean girl,” Rupert Murdoch of News Corp., all talking about Apple’s Steve Jobs.

While Amazon's Kindle Fire is probably the iPad rival least in need of a good mocking, Seth Meyers did get in a good shot on "Saturday Night Live" last night.

While Amazon’s Kindle Fire is probably the iPad rival least in need of a good mocking, Seth Meyers did get in a good shot last night on “Saturday Night Live.”

“It’s expected to sell well among parents who always buy the wrong thing,” Meyers quipped about the $199 tablet during his Weekend Update news sketch.

It’s good, but I still prefer the Pyramid tablet from this week’s episode of “The Office.”

(The Kindle item comes in about 45 seconds into the clip, for those who can’t watch an entire two minutes of fake news.)

Amazon’s music store melted yesterday under a crush of orders for Lady Gaga’s new album, which it was nearly giving away via a $0.99 one-day promotion.

Google’s music store, meanwhile, did just fine. Because Google doesn’t have a music store. It had planned on opening one, but after nearly a year of negotiations Google launched its music service this month without a store because negotiations with the labels broke down.

Bummer for Google and Gaga, I think. Because if Google did have a store, my hunch is that it would have a pretty good promotion lined up.

Here’s a hint of what could have been–a Gaga/Google ad promoting her new album and the search giant’s Chrome browser. It ran over the weekend, during her appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” and it’s easy enough to imagine a slightly tweaked version telling fans to head to Music Beta to grab the new album. Alas.

How did so many Wall Street analysts misjudge Intel's results so badly ahead of yesterday's earnings? Today some of them tried to explain themselves.

It felt like the punchline of Gilda Radner’s Emily Litella sketches from the old days of Saturday Night Live. After setting the table with forecasts that Intel, the world’s largest maker of computer chips, would be lucky to report quarterly earnings that would meet the consensus of the professional Wall Street prognosticators, Intel showed up and not only outdid those expectations, but blew them away, both for the quarter just ended, and with its confident guidance for the quarter ending in June.

How did the community of analysts–who usually are pretty good about this sort of thing–miss their forecast of Intel’s sales by more than a billion dollars? How did they also miss Intel’s earnings per share by 13 cents? Is it really a case of what Intel CFO Stacy Smith referred to on a conference call last night as two blind people describing different parts of an elephant? Analyst Doug Freedman with Gleacher and Co. tried to explain it in a note to his clients today. He says two things contributed to the mass misjudgement.

First, everyone misjudged the number of chips consumed in the sales channel during the third and fourth quarters of 2010 ahead of Intel’s big launch of its latest Sandy Bridge generation of PC chips in January of this year. Having burned through their inventory of older chips, Intel shipped more of the newer chips than most people had expected, as distributors bulked up their stocks after cutting them down more than usual. Freedman says he thinks the same thing is still going on, which means that the guidance that Intel gave for the second quarter may turn out to be conservative.

Second, there was an extra week during the quarter. If you listened to the conference call, you heard several references to Q1 having 14 weeks. If you add a week’s worth of revenue–about $818 million–plus the additional revenue brought in by Intel’s acquisitions of McAfee and the Infineon wireless unit, which works out to another combined $496 million, you end up with about $1.3 billion, which is almost exactly the difference between the Wall Street consensus revenue number and Intel’s actual revenue.

Whatever the reason for the disconnect between the forecasts and the results, Freedman boosted his price target on Intel to $28 from $27 and maintained his Buy rating. Even so, other analysts weren’t quite so willing to change their stripes. Michael McConnel of Pacific Crest Securities, continued to insist that the slowing market seen by Gartner–who Intel’s Paul Otellini criticized in not-so-veiled comments during the conference call last night–will catch up to Intel sooner or later. Another, Stacy Rasgon of Sanford Bernstein, wrote that he’s not buying Intel’s story, period. Tiernan Ray summarized the day’s scorecard on revisions and recriminations by Intel analysts.

Whatever they said, Intel’s share price roared by nearly 8 percent to close at $21.41, the highest levels it has seen since March. Never mind all that pessimism from yesterday. Come on, analysts, it’s time to work your Emily Litella impersonations. Say it with me now: Never Mind!

Here’s a clip from Saturday Night Live circa 1975, courtesy of Hulu, to get you started. Better luck next quarter.

Amazon's decision to subsidize the price of the Kindle through the use of advertising makes it one of the cheapest full-priced smartphones or tablets. And at that price, that's pretty close to disposable.

Say what you want about Amazon’s decision to subsidize the price of the Kindle through the use of advertising.

But the $114 price point for the e-reader brings it that much closer to being disposable, unlike the iPad, which starts at $499, or even the regular Kindle version at $139.

Sure, price tolerance varies, but the Kindle is now far more economical than most full-priced smartphones, making it much more manageable–maybe even forgettable–to lose.

And, you’ll have Visa or Olay to thank for that.

The reminder came after watching last week’s Weekend Update on “Saturday Night Live,” which showed just how easy it is to lose a Kindle.

A stewardess recounted her harrowing experience on the fateful Southwest Airlines flight, where a five-foot gap opened up in the ceiling of a Boeing 747 when they were at 37,000 feet.

“I was passing out peanuts, when I noticed I could see my breath. Then, I noticed everyone’s Kindles were lifting off their lap and headed upward. And then, I looked up an–when I saw one go out of the hole in the roof. And I screamed ‘I hope you are done reading “The Girl who Played with Fire,” because you aren’t getting that back.’”

Next time, maybe she’ll scream, “I hope you saved $25 by getting the ad-subsidized version.”

Because a Kindle for free seems completely out of the question.

I was wrong to wonder if the IBM "Jeopardy" Challenge would penetrate into popular culture. Watson, the computer that crushed humans at "Jeopardy" made its debut in a late night comedy monologue last night.

When I first started paying attention to the whole man vs. computer matchup on “Jeopardy,” I wondered if the whole thing would penetrate the popular culture. Obviously I was wrong to wonder. Of course it did. Jon Stewart devoted part of his opening monologue to Watson on “The Daily Show” last night. Some laughter ensued.

– I Like Big Cuts

Not bad, but I’m certain I’m not the only one hoping that somehow “Saturday Night Live” gets in on the action by reviving its old “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch from a few seasons back. Perhaps Sean Connery could hack Watson’s programming? You know what would happen.

Excellent!

Although they did not do their patented line–”Schwiiiing”–Wayne and Garth (also known as Mike Myers and Dana Carvey) of faux cable show “Wayne’s World” were back on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.

And it was a welcome visit.

Featuring their top picks for the upcoming Oscars, this retread from the late-night television sketch comedy icon was funnier than a lot of stuff on SNL now.

Enjoy:
