After he was appointed the new president of Microsoft’s important Server and Tools Division from his top engineering post at its come-from-behind Bing search unit, Satya Nadella now finds himself a leader of a business that also needs to keep catching up too.
In a wide-ranging interview with BoomTown yesterday, Nadella talked about both his four-year stint at Bing and how he looked forward the challenges of his new job.

Oh dear, BoomTown is still jetlagged from a recent trip to China and now Microsoft Bing is offering up a head-requiring event later this morning in San Francisco to explore the future of search.
There better be donuts.
A lot and with sprinkles, since speakers include the lugubrious investor and hedge fund philosophizer Peter Thiel and skunk-at-a-Web-garden-party author Malcolm Gladwell.

Yesterday, Microsoft Online Service SVP Satya Nadella–also known as the search-dude-in-chief–presided over the Search Summit, to update the media on the progress of the Bing service.
In this video interview, BoomTown chatted with him about the search engine’s aggressive efforts to make a dent in the market dominance of Google, which has a share of upwards of 70 percent.
Bing has just broken into the double digits, which is impressive, but it’s still fighting an uphill battle. It’s essentially the little search engine that could.

After BoomTown complained at December’s search summit held by Bing about the lack of the finest pastry known to man–namely,
donuts!–minions were dispatched by top Microsoft geek general Satya Nadella to fix the dire situation.
And, happily, at Search Summit 2010, there on the lovely snack table were a small pile of them–which looked like Krispy Kreme to me.
There were lacking the key sprinkles feature, but carb crisis averted and back to search news!

Just in case newspaper publishers are still fantasizing about cashing big Bill Gates checks in exchange for bailing on Google, Microsoft wants to be clear: Don’t count on us.
And today’s message was on the record.
