I love the smell of blog wars in the morning! Acting as Facebook often does to Google, a new site started by former Engadget editor Josh Topolsky just hired away yet another passel of tech journalists from the giant gadgets news and reviews organization. It is Topolsky’s second major talent raid since he left his editor-in-chief job there in March, for a new gadget property aimed at unseating Engadget.

Jim Bankoff, the fomer AOL exec responsible for buying Engadget for the Internet portal, has grabbed eight staffers who had recently left the huge tech site amid tensions, in order to start a new gadget property for his SB Nation sports and news platform. The site–which is still unnamed and will be run by outgoing Engadget Editor-in-Chief Josh Topolsky–will debut sometime in the fall. Meanwhile, AOL has zeroed in on a new leader to replace Topolsky.

Transphorm Nabs $20 Million From Google Ventures, Kleiner

Yet another “stealth” start-up came out of hiding today with a big Silicon Valley funding. That would be Transphorm, a power conversion technology company, that has raised $20 million more in a Series C financing led by Google Ventures and including Kleiner Perkins, Foundation Capital and Lux Capital. That adds to $18 million already raised.

Glassdoor Takes $12M for Job Review Site

Glassdoor, perhaps the only gossip site that can actually improve your quality of life, has raised $12 million in Series C funding led by new investor Battery Ventures and including existing investors Benchmark Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures. The company has user-contributed (and moderator-reviewed, before posting) salary data and employer reviews on 110,000 companies in more than 100 countries. Launched right before the recession hit in 2008, the site has grown to 3.5 million monthly uniques, and CEO Robert Hohman said he thinks it’s “time to lean into it as the economy is recovering.”
