Gilt Groupe Returns Its CEO: Kevin Ryan, Susan Lyne Swap Places

Gilt Groupe, the earliest and best known of the U.S. “private sale” shopping sites, has a new boss: Founder Kevin Ryan, who previously served as the company’s chairman, is now running the company. Susan Lyne, brought in as CEO two years ago from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, has been moved into Ryan’s old chairman slot.

Gilt Groupe's Susan Lyne Talks About Fashion, Local and (Not) IPO!

Yesterday, BoomTown dropped into the lower Park Avenue offices of the New York-based Gilt Groupe, the online fashion retail site, to talk to its CEO, Susan Lyne. Since 2007, the site has raised $83 million, giving it a $400 million valuation and spurring interest from investment bankers who think Gilt might be a good candidate for an initial public offering. That’s doubtful for now, given how important it is for Gilt to expand its business, even as competition increases.

Trying to Make Online Shopping More Fun

The new breed of e-commerce sites is benefiting by making shopping more personal and more like a game, the CEO of high-end retailer Gilt Groupe said Wednesday. Retailer Gilt Sees iPad App Driving Fashion Sales

Executives at Gilt Groupe, the fashion retailer known for its online-only sales of high-end items, had expected to do well with their iPad app, but they were surprised by some of the results after the device was introduced. On April 4, a day after the device debuted, 2.4 percent of Gilt’s sales came from the iPad, a higher portion than expected, said Gilt founder and chairman Kevin Ryan and Chief Executive Susan Lyne in an interview.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's Wenda Harris Millard Speaks!

When I was recently in New York, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast, with a side of video interview, with Wenda Harris Millard. She was recently named co-CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (aka the House Martha Built With Her Trusty Glue Gun). Millard went to MSLO after many years of building and running Yahoo’s ad business (previous to that stint, she worked at DoubleClick in its earliest days).

Martha Gets Wired

BoomTown has long been a big fan of Martha Stewart. And we like her 25% more now, after seeing the new pictures she took for Wired’s latest issue, as well as a particularly sassy interview she did with the magazine. The homemaking empress is on the cover of Wired, pictured here making a Wii-shaped cake. [...]

Wenda Speaks

My post yesterday about the treatment of former Yahoo sales chief Wenda Harris Millard as she left the company certainly resulted in a spate of calls to me from Yahoos past and present. That included Millard herself, who called me back this morning from New York to talk about her leaving the company for another [...]
