Indian Start-Up Turns Texts Into Dollars

Indian start-up SMS GupShup is trying to turn text messages into some serious ka-ching by creating a host of SMS-based services that, all told, account for more than 1.5 billion text messages a month.

Jawbone: You Won’t Pay a Penny for Our Thoughts

Headset maker Jawbone thinks it has found another nifty use for its electronic earwear. The company is using D: Dive Into Mobile to announce Thoughts, an iPhone app that lets road warriors dictate a quick thought that gets delivered as an audio file to whomever they like. The audio file gets sent to a recipients’ Thoughts app, or via email or a text message link.

CES: Taser’s Turn at Cellphone Safety

For parents who want to keep their kids from sexting–or just texting at the dinner table–new cellphone software called Protector keeps them in the loop. Protector, which debuts Thursday at CES, is made by Taser International, a company that’s best known for its series of electronic stun guns.
