More Fake Videos As "Viral" Web Advertising–Where Is the Old Spice Guy When You Need Him?

Ugh, yet another attempt to pass off “authentic” online videos as real ones, in order to hawk something. This time, it’s a video of a geeky man using a little transmitter, a red balloon and an iPhone to change screens in New York’s Times Square. Except not.

The My-Fill-In-the-Space Reset Is Here, as Struggling Social Network Morphs Into Entertainment Hub

Empty bracket or no empty bracket: Will it work? That’s pretty much the big question at News Corp. tonight, as its much beleaguered social networking site, Myspace, rolls out a new beta version aimed at shifting its fortunes. Merry Christmas! You Get Wi-Fi.

Google, Microsoft and Yahoo are all offering some form of courtesy Wi-Fi through the holiday season, at venues such as airports, hotels and Times Square. Each has a relatively new service it’s hoping to attract consumers to, whether it’s Google’s Chrome browser, Microsoft’s Bing search engine or Yahoo’s revamped home page and customization features.

Stock Stronger as Yahoo Preps to Report Next Week–But Employee Departures (and Return of Yodeling!) Rattle

In one week, Yahoo will report its third-quarter earnings, after the market closes. And so far, its stock is showing signs that investors are hoping for better days ahead for the Internet giant. Other good news: A pair of bullish analyst reports yesterday. But, a spate of executive departures, with chances of more to come, are worrisome. As is the excessive yodeling Yahoo is once again encouraging.
