Obama Will Hold Twitter Town Hall

U.S. President Barack Obama, whose re-election campaign recently announced that he’ll start personally tweeting from his Twitter account every once in a while, is going to take questions from Twitter users. A live-streamed Obama town hall will be held July 6 at the White House on the topics of the economy and jobs. And maybe what he ate for breakfast.

President Barack Obama will travel to Facebook Inc.’s Silicon Valley headquarters Wednesday to hold a “town hall” meeting on the economy with users of the social-networking site.

A Totally Metal Town Hall

Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon for a live Town Hall event on Facebook designed to update and engage people around the ongoing rebuilding efforts in Haiti. Linkin Park has a charity, called Download to Donate, that benefits five organizations working in Haiti.

One More Thing: Apple’s New MacBook Air

Steve Jobs’s “one more thing” today at Apple’s Town Hall event was the new MacBook Air, or, as he put it, “what would happen if a MacBook hooked up with an iPad.” The quick details: Complete unibody construction, all solid state storage, and there are two models, each with two configurations: an 11.6-inch model with either 64 gb or 128 gb of storage for $999 or $1199, respectively, and a 13.3-inch model with either 128 or 256 gb of storage for $1299 or $1599, respectively.

Apple just announced another media event, this one scheduled for October 20–a week from today. It’s topic: The Mac and, judging from the invitation art, “Lion”–the next iteration of OS X.

Apple Announces April 8 iPhone OS Event

April is proving to be a big month for Apple. First the launch of the iPad and now, just two days later, the announcement of an invitation-only event to show off the next generation of the operating system that it will soon run, iPhone OS 4. The event is scheduled for April 8–three days from now–at Apple’s town hall.

Discussing Palm’s first-quarter results earlier this month, the company’s leadership claimed that “the vast majority of new sales” for the quarter were generated by the Pre. Palm sold some 823,000 handsets during that period with sell-through of 810,000 units, so that’s an impressive feat. But only if the sales we’re talking about here were made to on-the-street consumers. And, according to Town Hall research analyst David Eller, it’s not entirely clear that they were.
