Exclusive: Former Googler Cassidy Steps Down as Polyvore CEO

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, former president of Google’s Asia-Pacific and Latin American operations, is leaving her CEO job at the fashion and shopping social network Polyvore. Co-founder Pasha Sadri, the creator of Yahoo Pipes, will take over from Cassidy as the company’s top exec. According to sources, the announcement was made internally at the start-up this afternoon.

Dressed in a bright red sheath and posed in front of a tangle of tech doodads, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg gets her Vogue moment this month. Literally, in a prominent feature in the latest issue of the famous fashion magazine. On Wednesday, though, Sandberg will likely be a little more geeked out at the social networking site’s big F8 developer’s event in San Francisco before an audience of mostly fashion-challenged dudes.

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, former president of Google’s Asia-Pacific and Latin American operations, has taken the CEO job at an unusual fashion and shopping social network called Polyvore. The registered site allows users to “mix & match products from your favorite stores.” In other words, everyone can play at being be a stylist, merchandiser and, if aspirations are high enough, presumably the editor of Vogue magazine.

Condé’s Cuts Come to Vogue

As expected, Condé Nast executives are swinging the layoff ax around the fabled magazine publisher. Today’s cuts are at Vogue, where I’m told at least six people have been let go from one of the company’s best-known titles. There will be more to come from the publisher, which shut down four magazines last week and is trying to bring down costs at its remaining titles by 25 percent.

Legendary fashion photographer Irving Penn created some of fashion’s most iconic images over his six decade collaboration with Vogue magazine. He died last night at age 92. Goodbyes and eulogies started on Twitter late last night and continue through the morning.
