AT&T Taps Samsung Galaxy Appeal as Latest Prepaid Smartphone

Warm up your thumbs, AT&T customers. The carrier just announced the Samsung Galaxy Appeal, the first of its GoPhone prepaid smartphones to have a sliding physical keyboard. The Android device also features a 3.2-inch touchscreen and a three-megapixel camera. It’s also eco-friendly, as the phone’s plastic parts are made of 80 percent recycled materials. The Galaxy Appeal costs $150 and will be available in Walmart stores starting June 5, and in AT&T stores on July 15.

Google’s Marissa Mayer is about to get a board seat with the world’s biggest retailer. Mayer, Google’s vice president of local and maps, has been nominated to join Walmart’s board of directors. Assuming her nomination goes through, it will be her first board seat at a major corporation. Walmart already has a Silicon Valley power player on its board — Accel’s Jim Breyer has been there since 2001.

Attention iPad Shoppers: Try Walmart at Midnight

Apple’s retail stores will begin selling the company’s new iPad at 8 am tomorrow. But if there’s a Walmart in your area, you can buy one even earlier. Eight hours earlier, in fact. The retailer says that its 24-hour stores will begin selling the new iPad at 12:01 am local time. Odd that Apple would give a big-box retailer such a jump on rival stores, including its own, but it appears to have done just that. Supplies will, of course, be limited. And if you do snag one early, try to resist the urge to taunt the queues at any nearby Apple Stores.
