Research In Motion Slashes Its Forecast Amid BlackBerry Weakness, Plans Layoffs

After noting several weeks ago that it was in for a rough patch, Research In Motion on Thursday reported quarterly earnings that were mostly in line with lowered estimates, but sales were below even already chopped expectations. RIM slashed its forecast for the remainder of its fiscal year. The company also said it will reduce its workforce in an effort to cut costs.
