Microsoft on Windows Phone Update: Hey, Nine Out of 10 Ain't Bad
So Microsoft’s first Windows Phone 7 update? The one “designed to improve the software update process itself”? Not only did it brick certain Samsung phones, it failed on about 10 percent of devices that attempted to install it. To be fair, a portion of those failures were attributable to end-user issues. “Of the 10 percent who did experience a problem, nearly half failed for two basic reasons–a bad Internet connection or insufficient computer storage space,” says Microsoft. But what about the other half? And those Samsung phones? The company offered no explanation for either, though as of this writing, updates to Samsung devices continue to be suspended.
