FCC Commissioner Indicates ATT-T-Mobile Deal Could Face Steep Climb
FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, who opposed Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal, said that AT&T’s proposed deal to buy T-Mobile USA could face an “even steeper climb” than that deal.
In an interview with C-SPAN to be aired on Saturday, Copps said that he is concerned with the $39 billion deal, according to Reuters, which said it has viewed the C-SPAN interview. According to Reuters, Copps said that if the deal did win backing of a majority of commissioners, significant divestitures could be required. Both the FCC and Department of Justice must give their blessing to the deal.
