Nokia's Ovi Store Hitting Its Stride, but How Long Will It Run?

ovi-storejpgNokia’s Ovi Store has come a long way since it launched in May of 2009. Nearly two years later, the early missteps have largely been forgotten, replaced by improved execution and some decent metrics.

The Ovi Store now serves up some five million downloads per day from a catalog of more than 40,000 apps–about eight times larger than the one with which it launched.

That’s a nice little milestone for the company. Clearly, Ovi’s picked up some good momentum, though ironically after Nokia announced a strategic mobile partnership with Microsoft, which has an app store of its own–Windows Marketplace. How long will Ovi last once Nokia begins selling Windows Phones?
