Apple Inhales Most of Particle

Apple has indeed “acqhired” HTML5 Web app consultancy Particle, AllThingsD has confirmed.

Though not a flat-out acquisition, many of Particle’s employees joined Apple last month, presumably to work on HTML5-based apps and services, iAds and the like. Particle was backed by performer Justin Timberlake among others, and its client list includes Apple, Google, Disney, Motorola, Amazon, Yahoo and Sony.

Terms of the deal, which was first reported by News.com, are unknown at this point. But Particle’s days as a stand-alone entity are likely numbered. Apple declined comment.

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
