Good Numbers for Badland: Audience Grew 26x During Paid-to-Free Apple Promo
Yesterday, we noted that the high-profile mobile game Infinity Blade 2 added 5.7 million players in a week, thanks to an Apple App Store promotion that offered paid games for free. Today, indie studio Frogmind, whose first game, Badland, was also free during the promotion, told AllThingsD that it saw an even bigger lift: Downloads of the game, normally $3.99, jumped from 280,000 to 7,400,000 in a week. Co-founder Johannes Vuorinen said the “eerie sidescroller” was the No. 1 free iPhone game during the promotion.
