Apple Pulls Apple TV 6.0 Update to Fix Bricking Issue

Apple on Saturday withdrew the latest software update for its Apple TV following reports that it rendered some devices on which it was installed unusable.

Evidently Apple TV 6.0, which debuted on Friday bringing a number of new features to the set-top box, has caused some trouble for a small number of users, deleting content and in some cases bricking the devices.

While the issue isn’t widespread, it has affected enough users that Apple yanked the update while it corrects it. An Apple customer support representative said the company is working on a fix, and that the firmware update will be made available again as soon as the issue is resolved.

An Apple spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
