Former Citigroup CTO Yobie Benjamin Joins Wearable Startup Avegant

Former Citigroup technology executive Yobie Benjamin said today that he is joining wearable upstart Avegant as the company’s chief operating officer and chief software officer.

Benjamin announced his new gig Monday at the Glazed wearable technology conference in San Francisco.

The company is working on a wearable display that uses a micro-mirror array and specialized optics to project directly onto the retina — what the company calls a “virtual retinal display.” The company said it will show prototypes of a headset incorporating its technology next month and hopes to debut its consumer technology at CES in January.

“We’re at the dawn of a new age in wearable technology, and Avegant has the products that are going to lead the revolution,” Benjamin said in a statement.
