Google Acquires Webcam Gesture Recognition Startup Flutter
Google has acquired gesture recognition startup Flutter, which takes input via a computer webcam rather than a dedicated device, in order to control programs like Spotify, iTunes, VLC and Quicktime. In its announcement of the deal on its homepage, Flutter said it would continue its research at Google and keep its own app up and running. The company was backed with $1.4 million from Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, Spring Ventures and Y Combinator. A Google spokesperson said, “We’re really impressed by the Flutter team’s ability to design new technology based on cutting-edge research.”
